Post subject:  Winter Roadside Recoveries.

With wintery weather hitting many parts of the country that don't normally have it, the likelihood of coming across someone that needs help (even just a little nudge) has gone up dramatically (at least in my neck of the woods). We all know that jeeps are great for tugging people out of harm's way. I'm curious how many other folks have started pulling stranded motorists out of medians and ditches in the freakish weather that much of the US has had over the past few weeks. Respond with your personal recovery count and I'll add it to this post. Feel free to update as the count goes up :)

dgeist:
- 1 x Rav4 stranded with no traction at the bottom of a hill in my neighborhood
- 1 x Civic that braked on a bridge and slid into the wall crunching it's bumper.
- 1 x E150 that spun on the interstate and ended up about 20 feet off the road in the soggy grass

bmrrwolfe:
- 1 x Kia Compact Sedan

Murray:
- 3 x cars spun out on the highway
- 1 x Toyota pickup that got stuck pulling out #3
- 1 x Semi tractor trailer hauling Canada-post

Blue KJ in PA:
- 1 x Hummer (H2?)
- 1 x Chevrolet Equinox

mikey1273:
- 1 x Saturn

scoobysnax:
- 1 x Tractor-Trailer

P.S. With respect to Good Samaritan laws, check to ensure that your state/locale has one, don't attempt procedures that you (or they) are not comfortable with or that might risk property or personal damage, and as most first responder procedures will tell you: step 1 should always be making sure the situation is safe for YOU to start helping.

I personally dont help anyone because sometimes people try to sue for damages etc... I remember it wasnt to long ago where someone saved a woman from a car. That ended up catching on fire & exploding afterwards. The woman ended up being paralyzed & sued the man for moving her from the vehicle. Even though she would have died. I used to be that person to help people but because of stuff like that I just keep on :JEEPIN:

Don't we have good Samaritan laws now to keep people for doing that?

I got a little Kia that overtook a turn and ended up the sidewalk/front yard of a house.
It was an old guy and we tried to undig all around it so we wouldn't damage anything, but he dug his bald little tires pretty deep, and i found the towhook in the rear and made sure to be very careful. Just to the left of the picture that was a telephone pole he clipped his mirror on, he was pretty lucky!

Took no effort at all to pull out with the KJ

Last week I pulled out One car out of a snow bank that the guy tried to go through to go down a ramp that was not plow. then i went through it to open it up and got on the hiway and pulled another one out that had spun around on the road and both bumpers were on the snow banks. ( Only one lane plowed )Had to pull him over bank into my lane and the guy told his wife that he was going to go buy a Liberty like mine. The i went i took the next ramp to get turned around to go home i look down the other side of the ramp and there was a toyota pickup pulling a car out of the ditch so i drove dowm the unplowed ramp to see if they needed a handand found out that he was stuck from pulling the car so i pulled them out (had to pull the car all the way up the ramp to the plowed road . coming home there was a tractor trailer that had the front bumper in the snow bank against the gaurd rail the tractor rear wheels against the other gaird rail and the trailer bumper against the same gaird rail as the front fumper . He said that he was there for about 5 hours and cant get help. I asked him what he had on and he said Canada post mail (light load) .So i said that i woud try to pull him back to get straigtened out and he laugh and i said we might as well try you dont have anyone else here to help you. So i hocked up a tow cable i have and it pulled the truck and trailer back without a problem. .Every time i pulled someone out they would say how much do i you and i would reply next time you see a Jeep just toot and wave or make a small donation the the IWK childrens hospital. I got home and the wife was pissed at me for being gone for so long but it was still worth it. :ROTFL:

Pulled out a Hummer that tried to enter the road up the block...easily done since they have that handy D-ring on the rear bumper...

Also got a Chevy Equinox out but that was not as simple since there was no where to tie on to...used my snowblower (since it was stuck right outside my driveway... :) ) instead to clear it out and the pushed a little.

Just a reminder to pull w/o using reverse when possible. Enough people claim that you are more likely to break drivetrain stuff that way they I try to avoid it if possible.
