They still have to replace the parts covered under the recall if they are still stock.

well remember nothing is set in stone....yet. There is no recall. The issue is still "under investigation"

However, My main concern is what about the group of us (myself included) that are inbetween the recalled, and the possibly recalled (respectively the ones that were made from roughly april of 03, when the 1st recall ended, to whenever the recall date is set for the 04's)??? I swear something doesn't feel right up front in mine, but the dealer said everything is A OK and I got it in writing saying that. But I swear if one flies off and tears up my new Revo's, or worse yet, injures me, heads are gonna do more than just friggin roll.

DaimlerChrysler AG's Jeep Liberty SUV is being investigated by U.S. auto safety regulators because its front suspension can fail.

The probe centers on 2004 versions of the Liberty and may lead to 172,484 vehicles being recalled, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its Web site Tuesday. The agency received seven complaints that a ball joint in the suspension broke while the Liberty was being driven. All the complaints came in the past six months.

No accidents or injuries related to the suspension were reported, the agency's investigation summary said. The NHTSA starts safety reviews with an initial investigation, called a preliminary evaluation. About one in four of those initial probes is upgraded, and the rest are closed. Upgraded probes lead to recalls 70% of the time, according to the agency.

All right, fess up.
 Which 7 of u guys filed the complaints?
I guess since they are in the investigatory phase we need to keep the pressure on by filing more complaints....
Could someone repost the link that was used to send the complaints in? :?:

I was in the other day and asked the dlr service mngr about mine ('03). He said that the replacement ball joints which were supposedly installed during the heat shield recall were "of a different composition" than the original ones but that he "would still like to see them have a grease fitting installed". I told him that as far as I knew the recall just added shields and didn't replace the ball joints. Was I wrong?

They were only replaced IF the dealer thought they were worn. So it was up to the dealer mechanic to determine if they needed replacement. They should have had the shields installed regardless though.

Well, on mine this horrendous grinding noise started. They replaced the rack (they guessed) even though I told them to check the ball joints like some of u guys suggested. Drove it out, same noise. Took it back and they replaced the ball joints. Hopefully all of them.

Hopefully this LBJ investigation will move along quickly now that the NHTSA is involved, before DC has a class-action lawsuit on their hands due to death and injury from LBJ-related accidents. Rest assured, if DC has been using the same LBJ part for all years (a safe assumption), and it is determined to be unsafe, they will be forced to recall ALL Liberty's, lifted or not. Maybe we'll all end up with HD greaseable LBJ's... hehe. I've got 10K on the Odo now. From now on I'll be checking my LBJ's... and if there's still no recall by the time I hit 20K, I'll replace mine with the Moogs. Big thanks to those who reported their LBJ failures.

The probe is only for the 2004 models? I'm sure they will invent some "different composition used" excuse to keep us '05 and newer owners out, and if so, we'll have to go for yet another round of pain over this issue.

Yeah, that's what I want to know. Mine was built in May of 03 and falls between the previously recalled ones and the soon to be recalled. So if they recall the 04's, how do I convince the dealer to even check mine. I tried at one dealer already and the service manager basically told me that he would check them but it would cost me since my VIN didn't read as needing the recall.

Yeah like I said I had mine checked a couple weeks ago at the dealer, and $25 later, they said all was well. Mine's got a build date of September 03. Somethin still feels funny up front though :?

Does anybody know when the cut off date is for being classified as an 03 or 04 model?

Don't know if it would do any good but if every member at lost signed it that would be quite a petition to hit Chrysler with.
Do we want to start one regarding the Ball Joints asking them to revisit the issue?

edited (was tired)..... see next post

GM?? I believe you mean Chrysler?

A petition isn't a bad idea...not sure how far it would get though... :?:
