Well today I was off roading up in milton vermont at some sand pits and got a little stuck in some mud. I tried to use a little wheel spin to get the tires cleaned out and get it moving again... the tires dug down to the bottom and caught on a rock. the front diff immediately snapped in half starting at where the pinion goes into the axle. I was able to drive it to a car wash to clean it. Its at the dealer now. we will see what they say. -Matt pics coming soon |

They don't care if it's a retail plan...... they put in the claim and get paid might as well make a friend out of you if it doesn't cost them. |

well the dealer called me back today and they can not help me because my skid plate has some scratches on it... i am going to do the work myself. i have changed out the front struts before and i am very mechanically inclined so it should not be too hard. any tips on putting a new diff in ? or does anyone have the fsm on file that they could send me? thanks -Matt |

I've heard this comment before from other people who have had difficulties getting dealerships to cover their warranties. I mean really, are you going to void a warranty on an off road vehicle because you actually took it off road?!? I'd argue that point with the service manager. |

Just tell them you were crawling over a curb or prius... |

mtnbikermatt wrote: well the dealer called me back today and they can not help me because my skid plate has some scratches on it... Ask them what the word skid means in skid plate. This is ridiculous. Skid plates are there specifically to slide over rocks to avoid getting hung up on obstacles and/or to protect important parts of the undercarriage from damage. They are supposed to get scratched. Jeep should be embarrased to have someone represent them that way. This clown should be selling poser SUVs, not Jeeps. Threaten to take your case to a local TV station that has a consumer advocate. It would make great TV that the local Jeep dealer doesn't cover Jeeps that are taken offroad. |

Even if the said jeep was never taken "offroad", it is still possible to scrape the front skid...... |

I'd tell them that's from the ice/snow. I'm off warranty now, but good to know. Always remove skid plates when taking in for warranty work apparently. "Why'd you take them off" "Better gas mileage and easier to clean the salt off. Figure I don't take it off the pavement so I don't need them" |

You should have had Geico Mechanical Breakdown coverage. $250 deductible on ALL systems. No questions asked. Good till 7 years or 100K miles. Geico just gives the shop a credit card number and you give them $250. All for $8 a month. |

You better actually talk with them, they do not cover modified vehicles or anything that happens when not on a official road. |

Well today I towed the jeep back from the dealer to my dorm. I got a used diff off of ebay with only 50k on it for $200 shipped! with a guarantee! I will be putting it in sometime this week at my buddys shop down the road. Any tips on putting one in? -Matt |
