Every time we fill the tank on my girls 06 liberty it over flows just as the pump clicks to a stop. :banghead: It happens at different stations, so it has to be something with the car. Does this happen to anyone else, if so what did/do you do, if not do you have any suggestions?

My '06 CRD doesn't overflow when it clicks off, but if you try to "top" it off with anymore than 1/2 a cup, it will. Full means full in these things. By comparisom, I can put over a gallon in the Mustang once it clicks off. Saddle tanks though.

I think it's pretty common. I just listen for the gas to approach the top of the tank while filling up. The 2006 does it worse than the 2003.

Drill a hole in the top of the gas tank. This will prevent the pressure build-up problem which casues the tank to overflow. :-)r :goink:

I never had this problem when I lived in Cali. But since I moved to Alabama, it happens almost every time I fill up. Sometimes, I can tip the nozzle just right to prevent it. But the problem with that is that it has a tendency to shut off several times during the fuel up. You have to pay attention so as to not leave with half a tank  or end up overflowing it manually  .

Overflow happens on my 06 as well. Just kill it when the pump says 15 gal!

According to the dealer (kk-wise) it's the roll-over valve. When it fails (like, right out of the f-ing factory) the fuel will never stop itself from over flowing. So, they replace the whole tank.

Did this on mine since I had it new, then I just got un-lazy and went and had them change it.

Yep we have a fuel tank. Mine never over fills. When I first got mine I would try to push it to the next full dollar or a nice round amount like I could do with the Outback... I can't as soon as you try to pump more after it has click off once it stops as soon as you try. Full is Full.

Wow! On my 03 I can put almost 1/3 of a gallon extra in mine when it clicks off. I top it right till I see it in the fill hole. Interestingly, it seems to "burp" after the click off then I can top it.

What, you mean you guys don't wear gasoline as cologne? Unless you're going some place nice, then you should use WD-40 of course ;) But on a serious note, for those that haven't come across this TSB yet, here you go http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB/TSB_1400109a.pdf

Jeep obviously knows of the problem, but as of yet the dealer has not heard of any plans to issue a recall.

I have a mixed bag on this. with my 1999 TJ Wrangler, I can almost always put 2 gallons or more in after the pump shuts off for the first time. It takes a while, but it is pretty consistent. With my 2010, when the pump shuts off it isn't worth trying to put any more in because you can maybe nurse another tenth of a gallon in. Neither one ever spills unless I get too ambitious trying to manually top it off.

I follow you there. But the problem a lot of us are having isn't even when trying to top off the tank. When we're filling our tanks fuel reaches the point where it shuts off the pump and then a couple of cups of fuel bubble out of the tank. I searched for hours on line before I found that TSB, oddly enough it was on Jeep forum :) and even talked to a handful of techs. What it comes down to in my understanding is that a valve in the evap system is not opening and allowing the air pressure that builds in the tank while filling to be purged. Thus when the tank is filled and the pump stops the flow of inbound fuel, that air bubble makes its way rapidly up the filler neck pushing fuel ahead of it and all over the side of the jeep. Sometimes, and I have no idea what makes the difference, this happens when the tank is only 3/4 full instead of 100% full. Which of course, I never seem to notice until I'm a few miles down the road :)

Once the pump clicks off while filling my '03, I can get maybe another 1.5L into it and by that point I'm grabbing the roof rail and rocking the Lib' to get more in. Then 40km down the road, the needle moves off of full. Pig!
My wife's minivan on the other hand... The pump clicks off and I can squeeze another 15-18L in there!! I can drive about 120km before the needle even budges!
