Dont know where this fits.

Apaprently for more lift the CV's needs to be machined 3/8 off to accomodate the lift and travel etc. I don't get where the machining of the cv's go. Inside CV? Outside Cv? What side of the CV? looking at LHS shaft from left to right:

Spline shaft that engages hub with flat side to locate onto hub rear ; CV ; Side where shaft comes in ; shaft ; Inner cv shaft inlet ; Inner cv ; Flat side with the spline shaft for the diff.

crap, i cant add the image I made.
Does what I asked make any sence to anybody out there?

I dont want to brake a CV shaft. She is my daily joy/drive!

With the CRD you are limited to how much you can go anyways. I wouldn't worry so much about machining the CVs and just do a good 2.5/3 inch lift and be done. Not going to net you that much for all of the effort needed I don't think

Unfortunately somebody needs (and Im not sure it will ever happen) to come out with a more basic SFA system so that more people can transform they rigs into real offroad performers.

More basic? All the ones I have seen are pretty basic. Similar to that of a Cherokee or TJ with a lift.

I meant something as bolt on as possible. To hopefully keep the cost down as much as possible to more likely entice people into doing it.

Rock Lizard was working on it - however he had to get a real job - but it didn't sound like it was completely dropped - I think they're still committed to doing Ted's (USAFCOP) - and I think they're primarily working in driveways - so if it works - it should be closer to bolt on.

If a person could keep the rear end basically stock, say the same lift compliments as come with a Franky etc and just work on a solid front end it might not be a fortune.

For the amount of lift needed to fit a SFA under a KJ you need at least 8"+ of lift, the stock rear suspension will not handle that much lift.

i have been looking at many sfa swaps ,,, it really looks like 90% of those could be dropped 4 to 6inches... say you pull the coils / coilovers out of yours and drop the front end all the way down till it hits the frame and or motor.... then lift it back up say 2 or 3 inches...how close do you think you would be to stock ride hieght? stock , 1" lift , 2" lift?

Not possible unless you opted to run OEM Ford radius arms.Right now at 10" of lift I can only raise the right front about 4" before the R/F radius arm hits the engine mount(which is custom and has about 3/4" more clearance then a hacked apart OEM cradle does). So at 6" of lift I would have zero up-travel and some pretty nasty banging noises to deal with, not to mention no room for the exhaust and oil pan. There just is not the room since the KJ was never designed for a SFA and has no frame and you got to stuff 20lbs of s__t in a 10lbs bag, really there's alot of stuff needed to keep that front SFA in place and have everything work like it supposed to(steering and such).

i was thinking of going with land rover discovery style radius arms , and removing the upper control arm mount with a little sawsall action.
astro steering box , xj trac bar and mount , kj hubs ( so i keep the speed sensors) but i will have to do a little triming on the rolled lip on the back of the hub or use those 1/4 inch spacers used for wj knuckle swaps

and for springs , just using the coils ( such as the one used on coilover shocks Image
By jeepdaddy at 2010-03-14 )

as they are 2" inside dia. and from 8" to 16" tall ,,, and 90 bucks a pair.
