Was a pound low on freon, had it charged and oil added at a shop, worked great. Next day started the engine turned on the A/C and heard a hiss and groan. Then all good. Shut off A/C then on, no problem. I noticed where the compressor shot oil all over the intake manifold. I realized it only did this problem when the system had sat long enough to equalize the pressure on both sides. So the next morning, ready for more under hood action I had hood up started engine, turned A/C on and ran to the front, clutch engaged and ffffffffffffffffffft, oil and freon shoot out then quiet. Well enough leaking has got me back to poor A/C performance. What would cause such a high pressure on first start up? |

You probably added to much R134A,the system requires a very specific amount. |

I don't know, paid Meineke to test the system. So the compressor still groans at first start up, didn't shoot any more wad, and A/C still cuts out often once the engine reaches operating temp on a warm day. |

Just b/c you paid them doesnt mean they did it right. Did they test the pressures on the compressor? Did they tell you it was in good shape? |

oh I agree, which pisses me off, pay good hard earned money to have more problems. I will be going back there to complain. They put gauges on it, said it needed a full pound and added some oil too. But now that it blew out the possible excess freon, its back to cycling off to long when the motor warms up. I did replace the fan clutch not long ago. |

The only way to tell how much R134A you need to to evac the system completely(and pull vacuum for 20mins) and see how much is pulled out and then put in the correct amount of R134A.That is the only way,no other way possible. |

where would the freon be coming out if overcharged, the hose to compressor seal? Why only on first start up, when hi and los sides are equal |

Why only on first start up, when hi and los sides are equal When the high/low sides are equal pressure with to much R134A the compressor is trying to compress liquid R134A.If you didn't know you can not compress liquid so it either gets pushed out a seal or blows the compressor, since it's blowing out of a seal that is your leak that caused the whole low on R134A in the 1st place. You might as well replace the compressor(which requires other parts to be replaced in the AC system) since you may have done internal damage by now. |

Thank you for the info. After about 5-10 seconds the compressor groan goes away, do you believe the compressor is toast? Looks like I will be visiting Meineke today

If it burns out, then you will have to have the entire system cleaned and replaced with new refrigerant. If they screwed up, make them replace it. |
