Post subject:  Oil on sponge in air cleaner compartment

So I changed my oil and replaced my air filter yesterday. The old air filter had some oily substance around the seal (though not really on the element itself) and the little sponge on the inside of the compartment had a fair amount of oil on it. What gives, and what should I do?
Thanks in advance.

What is a PCV valve?

Sport:

PCV valve is a piece of plastic with a valve in it that controls the pressure inside the crankcase

When it starts going bad you'll often start seeing oil get blown out of the crankcase filter and other places

it's the piece attached to the side of the oil filler neck

the old one will more than likely crack when removing the pcv, i tend to use a shop rag and a pair of standard pliers to kind of cushion the force when twisting it

it's a tight fit, but don't be apprehensive just take care in removing the old one

Here is a link on how to change it - http://www.lostkjs.com/forum/phpBB2/vie ... =pcv+valve

I'm not sure when they changed it, but on the '07s its not there. I know its on the back of the head, but I haven't found it yet. The second page has a picture of where it "is".

Its actually on the top at the back left inside of the vale cover at the base. Follow the air tube and it looks like a fitting, undo the pinch clamp, pull off the hose, screw it out and there ya go.

Be careful when trying to get that thing off. Its kinda tight and I can see someone breaking the elbow off the oil filler neck or snapping a vacuum hose. Its kinda tricky to get off and back on.. I snapped the old one to get it out so I could see what was going on.

I changed my PCV valve a little bit ago and also had quite a bit of oil on that sponge (old PCV valve was bad - very slow to open and close.) So now I want to replace the songe - do I need to get that specific sponge which is cut at an old angle or or can I just try to cut one up myslef?

I went to the hardware store and got a lawn mower filter and cut it. works perfect.
