I was wondering: has anyone used a lubelocker gasket for a Dana 30 diff on a Dana 30a? Any problems? I'm questioning if it fits and also if torquing the bolts would be hard on the Aluminum housing. Anyone know the normal bolt torque spec for the front diff cover?

I'm going to be servicing the front diff soon, and thought I'd clean it out instead of just drain / fill. While I'm at it I want to throw in a lubelocker so its easier each time.

Please, don't just tell me to use RTV, I'd really prefer not to.

Also, does the transmission pan always get a gasket or is RTV typically used? They have a lubelocker for it too, was considering that as well. Anyone have any experience with it? Any issues using it on the Transmission?

i've used a lubelocker on a 42 and a 45 tranny, just not the one in my current vehicle, had no problems with it, worked just as well as the one in the 8.25

no idea on the D30A tho

Have fun with the D30A cover, you have to remove the front mount which one of the bolts requires the drivers side LCA to be removed to get the bolt out.Just use the drain plug,oh and right from the factory the D30A's cover is RTV'd on.

Ah Boiler just drop the whole diff down out, being your first time I am sure you can do an R&R on it in 8 or 10 hours.
Like Troy stated just drain and fill, if you are worried do it more often. mines been changed 5 times now and comes out clean looking each time

Great, thanks guys. Exactly the answers I was looking for. I had no idea about the D30a.

I think I need to use mine more. I'm definitely not knowledgable of how it works....but I believe no parts turn inside of the front diff unless I'm in 4hi or 4lo, correct? So most of it is up out of the oil for long periods of time if not used? Will they rust or is using it every couple months good enough to keep it protected with oil?

Does the transmission come with RTV from the factory, or with some kind of gasket?

Hey Tom, is 8 to 10 hours bad? I love blowing the day messing around with the Jeep. :D But no I'm going to take advice and just fill it and drain it with my $10 mobil 1 75-90 a few times before my next scheduled change, then fill it up with the good stuff and call it clean.

the parts turn with the wheels due to the cv's, there's just no torque being applied to them

if we had locking hubs, different story

That and the casing design for most IFSs are such that there is no diff cover and thus no need for a LubeLocker.
