Hello boys. The valve stem on my spare had a micro fracture in it causing a slow leak. As you know the valve stem is built into the TPMS sensor. So I bought a new TPMS sensor/valve from the dealership and had a local tire shop install it along with a new spare tire to match the 4 Michelins I already have on my 2006 Liberty. Well even though the sensor/valve was changed and the PSI of the spare is at 33PSI, the TPMS light still lights up in the dash and the overhead console says "Low Spare Pressure". Any ideas on why it's saying that? Does it not pick up the new sensor?

doesn't the tpms trigger low spare pressure at 31.5 psi or something? maybe your/their tire gauge is off a few psi

Hmmm...perhaps. Though the tire shop did inflate it to 33PSI(that's what they told me) and my digital tire gauge read 33.5. :dizzy:

Read the owners manual,it will say how to train the new TPMS sensor which is needed.

I browsed through the owner's manual and it doesn't talk about how to train a new TPMS sensor. It just talks about what to do if the light goes off/message displays in the overhead console. It says to check the pressure and make sure it corresponds with the tire pressure placard located on the driver's door. Once the pressure is correctly set, drive around for 2 minutes and the TPMS will reset itself. Well I've done that and it's still saying the spare is low.

I'm gonna try putting more air in the tire. Perhaps bring it up to 35PSI and see what happens.

Do these tpms come in certain yr Lib's only or are they only in the Limited editions?

Well I bumped up the air in my spare to 36PSI. Stupid TPMS still saying "Low Spare Pressure". God darn it! :x Stupid thing... :banghead:

I am not sure but the manual says there are 2 systems, my Limited CRD has the more advanved one. there was a piont where the FED required it on all cars. I'm thinking that was 2008 so it may have been phased in earlier who knows.

Are you doing a 4 tire or 5 tire rotation? I do the 5 tire rotation and sometimes one or two wheel(s) will take a while (a few miles or a few days) to reset themselves. If you don’t rotate your spare, then I would try swapping it with another wheel/tire and see what happens.

Only 4 tire. That's a good idea. I'll try that

I ripped off a stem on the trail and had a local shop replace the TPMS sensor, similar to yours. The shop that installed it noted that the sensors were the same model as the ones on a viper he serviced and he remembered them needing to be "cleared" to relearn the sensors, so they did that ( I have to assume with a scan-tool or similar). If I remember correctly, the sensors have an inertia sensor so they only send out a pulse every once in a while except when they're moving. You may want to try simply putting the tire with the sensor on one of the wheels and running it for a few miles.

Yup I'll try that! Thanks :JEEPIN:
