| Post subject: | Email Change Warning |
Yesterday I got locked out of my account for 6+ hours when I tried to change my LOST email address. I used to have my work email address as my contact, since I spend pretty much all day with my email open. But I recently got an iPhone, so I wanted PM notices, etc. to go to my Gmail account. Thinking nothing of it, I went into the User Control Panel, changed my email, submitted it and - much to my surprise - my LOST account was deactivated pending an admin's approval. That surprised me, but I didn't think much till I responded to the email I got from LOST saying my account was deactivated. When I sent a response, saying: "Please reactivate me ASAP!! I'm in the hunt for something in the 'For Sale' section and I only have PM's to communicate with the seller! I didn't realize that changing my email would deactivate my account." I then received a reply email from the Yahoo server that the lostjeeps@yahoo.com account had been disabled. Long story short, I texted a local member, shaggyislandboy, and he PM'ed Digger and corwyyn, and got me reinstated last night. But I missed out on a CB/ Antenna combo I was considering purchasing. I'm not airing this as a grievance by any means - the forum has to have a way of controlling ingress and egress so as to minimize board spammers. I'm airing this as a warning to any other members that may consider making a change to their account, and also hoping to bring attention to the fact that the LostJeeps email seems to not receive incoming messages? |

I did this and I was off for about 2 days while trying to buy some parts. The system should warn you BEFORE you make the change that it disables your account, not after. |

I'll see if I can get an admin to post something "official" as to whom to contact in this event......... |

Diggerfreek wrote: I'll see if I can get an admin to post something "official" as to whom to contact in this event......... We'll need an email address or phone number, since we won't be able to PM. I wished I had your email address yesterday! InCommando wrote: I did this and I was off for about 2 days while trying to buy some parts. That way, you can decide to either live with the non-changed profile, or PM an admin ahead of time so as to minimize your down time. I think that's twice I've agreed with IC? What is going on here? JL Rockies wrote: Isn't this off-topic? If so, mods, please move. I posted it here because it's kind of a big deal. I felt it affected all users, not just those who frequent "appropriate" forum areas. I thought about putting it in "From the Staff" but since I'm not staff, I put it here.
