Did a search and didn't find anything about this. Does anybody have problems with the chrome skins coming off the lug nuts? I took mine in for the recall and I find one of my skins is missing yesterday. I changed my brakes and rotors and just about every skin except for one came off the front wheels. Anybody else had this problem? How do you get them to stay on? JB Weld? I'm thinking about buying all new ones.

Maybe something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-BLACK ... ccessories. The wife thinks they will look good.

I'm missing most of mine.
I actually heard one fall off when I was driving after I rotated my tires.
I don't worry about them. Just make it look pretty.
If you want to not worry about them just get some lugs that are a solid lug, not lugs with the cap on them,

I had the same problem with mine. I just had the mechanic at the dealer replace mine a while back and had no problems as of yet with the rest.

Everybody do yourselves a favor. Before you run into BIG trouble  like I have on more than one occasion, swap ALL those POS's out for McGard lug nuts. They are solid, one piece lug nuts and they're guaranteed for life. Plus they look nice! The part number you need is 64010. They're pricey, but well worth it when you're on the side of the road trying change a flat, you don't have to worry about stripping that skin off of your lug nut and getting hopelessly stuck in the wrench, or having it spin on the nut or strip with no way of getting it off! It's cheap insurance if you ask me. You WILL thank yourself. Not to mention, while your at it you can buy matching wheel locks if you have expensive rims. If you look at the wheel lock that's on your spare tire (from the factory) you'll see that it's made by McGard. Don't forget to properly torque 'em in increments (50 - 75 -100) up to 100 ft/lbs!

I have black chrome solid mcgards on mine. Look great on the black wheel and I should never have to think about them again.

You need to know that without the covers your lug nuts are 18mm instead of 19mm. Hope you carry an 18mm socket in your KJ because with the 19mm OEM tire iron you can forget about it.

X2 - Once those lug nuts start to rust, you're done. They'll round off quickly with a wrench that's one size too big, especially if they've been slammed on with an air wrench. Once again, you really don't want to get stuck somewhere in the rain with a flat tire, waiting for AAA, soaking wet, p*ssed off because you lug nuts are rounded/stripped. That won't be a good day for you.

The Factory lugs are made by Mclean fasteners is Royal Oak ,MI they make the alum cap too. They have been having problems for years with the welding machines on the caps....Say 20% miss welded or brunt cones from the welders. The Big 3 get pissed all the time, but they supply everyone in the world, including Japan...They make a real nice one piece lug for the Harley/Lincoln Trucks coming out of Dearborn Assb......Will see what they make in a one piece for Chrysler in the stud size...M12X1.5 or 1/2X20 or M12X1.75...They use a awsome plater in Grand Rapids, MI who does the high poish chrome...Yes there lugs come in black. They don't sell to the public...OE only.....We do work for them here in Mi....Chris

I think Summit has them for a good price

Summit has them for exactly the same price - $12.99/set of 4 that I paid at Pep Boys and I didn't have to pay shipping.

:2cents: On a side note, I wouldn't recommend the open-faced nuts, especially if you're an off-roader or live in a community that salts the roads in the winter. The open-faced ones will collect a whole behind-load of road debris and crud making life miserable if you have to do an on-the-side-of-the-road repair. All that stuff will collect inside the nut, and could possibly ruin your stud and possibly prevent the nuts from threading on and off properly. They're also weaker and more prone to warpage/breakage when you have to torque them, especially when the garage hits 'em with an air gun. I always recommend putting anti-seize grease on your lug nuts. Every time they come off, the studs get a fresh coat. I've never had a problem getting lug nuts off by hand when they are properly torqued and lubricated. :2cents:

i use a 3/4 on my lugs, slightly tight on the ones with skin, and not loose on the ones without

typically 3/4 and 19mm is equiv. but not exactly and not with all brands

just a thought

What would be the benefit of an open-faced lug nut? I've seen them before, but I never knew why they would sell them that way?
