So the little chip that struck the windshield landed right behind the oil change sticker & was never noticed until BLAMMO! Freezing temps and a lovely huge crack running all the way across.

I've looked at moparpartsamerica.com, mopar.com, jparts, and jeeppartspeople.com. Can only find one windshield listed @ $349 for our year. What's the best way to get one replaced? Buy it yourself, or go to an auto glass-repair place?

Just call a local shop, most areas have several , one that I use here came to my garage and installed it for 250/260 I think.

Cool....thanks Tom. If I'd caught it while still a chip, repair would be free under insurance. Now it's my hemorrhoid to fix.

Make sure you only replace it with PPG glass,it's the OEM glass in a KJ.

Yes forgot to mention that, a couple of places I called had glass that they didn't know or would not tell me where it was from!
The place I use also does work for Jeep so they had the right glass in stock

Thanks---PPG glass shouldn't be a problem around us. There's a PPG plant not 4 miles from my house. Also found out recently that the Veep of my bowling league is the parts supervisor at the local repair place. 8)

You might since that cheap china made glass is not very safe and being a unibody/uniframe design the windshield is a structural part of the body(helps supports the roof in a rollover).

Only if you have FL plates and have FL insurance.Being military I bet you still have CO plates and insurance since you do not need to change while in the military.Check your policy for glass replacement.

That is so true! My KJ was about 1.5 years old when I had to have the windscreen replaced because there was a crack right in my line of sight. Thankfully the insurance in NY covers windshields and glass 100%, but I would have paid gladly had I know the POS piece of glass they put on. :furious: 5 years later, the windshield is so pitted it chews up wipers and constantly looks dirty. You can actually hear the wipers scraping their way across the glass - it's painful. It's so bad that Rain-X doesn't work on this windshield. My factory one, I could drive through a hurricane or a drizzle with Rain-X and never use my wipers. Heed this advice!

I paid $140 one time to replace a windshield.. I only did that because it was a loaner, and did not want to bring it back to the dealer with a broken windshield, lol..
But I'm in NY as well, and I have full glass coverage, got three new windshields within the last six months..
That's what happens when you do a lot of highway driving..

Sorry, I wasn't trying to imply that you're a jerk. Was just curious.
