I am in the market to purchase some recovery gear of rthe Jeep so I won't be afraid to get him stuck. Right now all I have on my list is a 48" Hi-Lift Jack, and the Hi-Lift Jack Off Road Kit. I know I need some chain but I'm not sure how long I should get it. Can you guys give me so advice as to what to add to the recovery kit? Tow straps maybe, and anything else I should be with out. |

Skip the Chain, to much damage if it snaps, go with a 30' snatch strap in it's place. |

I might do that in addition to a chain, I would like to be self sufficient in getting out of a tight spot when the time comes |

I have: --(4) 20' 15,000# ratchet straps --30' 20,000# strap --20' 15,000# strap --10' 15,000# strap Ill have to agree that a small shovel will be a good tool, also a tree saver strap. |

I carry a small folding shovel. I just toss it under the back seat, along with a cheap socket set, a screw driver set, a small pry bar, and a hammer. A double-loop recovery strap is in the jeep all of the time. And just to be clear: NO STRAPS WITH METAL HOOKS! |

Keep in mind if youre using the hi lift as a very slow winch, the snatch strap is pretty useless, too much give. I prefer straps to chains in most cases, but chains are useful in some situations. just my

I agree with these guys, Chains are bad news. I had a cousin almost die cause a chain snapped cause his buddy said "it'll work" and he was badly beaten. Also as a safety professional, when straps snap is usually well over their safe work load cause they're designed that way. Don't forget a rear recovery point. If you have a trailer hitch just buy the hitch hook, they are like 10 bux at harbor freight and they are great. |
