My curiosity has gotten the best of me, what's the big differences between the 45rle and 42rle transmissions, and what years came with what? I've searched and all i can find is "45 is stronger", I was hoping for a little more detail. Thanks for any replies. :D

It's the 45RFE trans................

45RFE gear ratio's..........

The 45RFE later became the 5-speed 545RFE.

* Gear Ratios:
o 1st 3.00:1
o 2nd 1.67:1
o 2nd Prime 1.50:1
o 3rd 1.00:1
o 4th 0.75:1
o Reverse 3.00:1
* 545RFE only:
o 5th 0.67:1

42RLE.....................

Gear Ratios:

* 1st - 2.84
* 2nd - 1.57
* 3rd - 1.00
* 4th - 0.69
* Rev - 2.21

The 42RLE also started life out as the A604 which was a FWD tranny used in the very 1st gen minivans.

4 = 4 forward speeds
2 = torque capacity from 1-10(1 being the lowest)
R = rear drive
L&E = limited electrically controlled

4 = 4 forward speeds
5 = torque capacity
R = rear drive
F&E = Full electronically controlled trans
