Well, I have read a lot of questions/concerns about the stiffness of the ride of the OME 927 HD springs. So, I did a little scientific testing of my own. My Palm Pre has an app that can use the internal accelerometer to log vibrations, like a seismograph. So before I took off my Daystar lift, I logged a couple of runs through some parking lots with various sized speed bumps. I figured that would be a good comparison between the two. I then re-logged the same routes once I had my OME 927's installed. Daystar Setup: OEM Springs Rancho RSX 17505 Shocks Daystar 2.5" Spacer Lift 3/8" top spacer plate 3 Ring Clevis OME Setup: OME 927 Springs Bilstein BE5-D916 Shocks Daystar Top Plate 1/2" DIY Frankie Spacer Looks like OME is a smoother ride - In all 4 tests. Y-Axis shows G's measured by the accelerometer. ![]() ![]() ![]()

and assuming those are new OME's, do it again in 2k and you'll see a clearer difference |

They are already settled in. I have put about 3500 miles on it since the spring swap. |

This is exactly what we needed LTT. Too many people have been questioning our " seat of the pants " data and this just quantifies what we all already knew! |

wow, that is pretty cool. thanks for posting. makes me feel better about spending the extra money on the full OME setup instead of going with a cheaper option. |

Mmmm, empirical data It's good to know that my desire for an OME lift isn't founded simply in gold plating and drool factor. Dan |

Please do the test again without the trash Rancho shocks. I've run the Daystars with Ranchos and without Ranchos...and the Ranchos are VERY harsh compared to the Skyjackers and OEM shocks. The Rancho shocks are likely the cause of your outcome...not the springs and/or spacers. |

Trash Ranchos????? Would not run anything else, way better than junk Skyjackers which are way too soft of valving, OMEs are even too soft in my book |

I'm just saying... Ranchos cause the log wagon ride quality. In the beginning of the forum here years ago people were running the Ranchos because at the time it was almost the only thing out there, and there were NUMEROUS problems with them. Harsh ride, bushings didn't fit properly, etc. Rancho is trash. Run ANY other shock and you will likely see different results. My Daystar spacers + Conduit washers ride VERY nice and I am sure the OME springs are nice too but I don't imagine you'd see the same difference between the two if you kept everything else equal (i.e., shocks, etc.). |

Over the past 38 years of driving 4WDs I have tried every shock out there I think, most are no longer even being made. The Ranchos are a good well built shock, no noises from them and they fit without any problems on mine and several others that I have installed. OME shocks...I have a pair sitting in the garage, too soft for me, feel like the Ranchos I had on for 100,000 miles What causes a log wagon ride is the springs more than anything or using spacers on stock springs! |

By definition a Spacer should make the ride non-linear, you preload the spring by compressing it a extra inch and then the suspension will not respond. - i.e. if you have a 400lb/inch spring - and you compress it 1 inch - then for the first 400 lbs of input the suspension with not move - it will take 401lbs of force to begin moving - so 0 to 400 lbs on input - no compression - no movement. by contrast a suspension with a 500lb/inch - if it has 100 lbs of force - it'll compress 1/5 of an inch - so it's a heavier spring - with a lighter force - but it will respond - before the preloaded 400lb/inch spring. |

I will say that the Daystar set up rides rough, there is no doubt about it. I love it though as it makes the Libby ride like a Jeep should. |

So by your logic that would explain why my nice riding Jeep felt like crap immediately after installing the Ranchos...to the point my wife even noticed and commented on it, right? And so did many other members back then, which is why I did NOT use Ranchos this time around. If you like the stiff, tobacco-wagon ride quality, go for it. Most of us prefer a smooth, comfortable ride while holding up the weight at the same time. |

shocks don't hold "up" anything, depending on how squashed the old shocks were compared to the new ranchos may have caused at least a partial over-reaction sensitivity to the new shocks it takes awhile to break in new components if it was stiff for some reason after replacing stock shocks in the daystar setup it may have been that your stock shocks were blown and you were just riding on the coils which yeah.. would probably result in a difference I run the rancho RSX, no problems with any bushings, no problems with a 'rough' ride, rides like a caddy and has for about 40k now to each their own |
