WHY ARE THERE NO BROKEN RENEGADES AROUND HERE???

I called 3 junk yards and a pick N pull trying to find a renegade with the Mopar lightbar. it would be cheaper to go that route instead of dumping 500 bucks on the lightbar. plus i'd like to have spare parts on hand for just in case instances.

I'm using the money i DO have towards purchasing the stuff that is needed such as towing gear, tires, skids .etc so obviously i'd like to pinch pennys when it comes to stuff that isnt AS important (tupperwear lightbar) :-)r

out of these places i called the only 3 jeep libbys they had were 2 CRD's and a 02 libby 4x4 which was rear ended hardcore.

i hate being a college student. :furious:

any ideas?

if all fails i'll have to build my own

That's because for some reason the Renegades don't break! - I have almost 115,000 miles on mine and NEVER had any issues with ball joints, window regulators or any other common problem with the Liberty's. I've never even changed out a marker, reverse or brake light! The only non-standard maintenance repairs / replaces I've done are 1) Evap system hose and 2) Reverse light switch. So far, that's it! I'm sure you can understand why I'm very happy with my Liberty. I don't want to give it up, and so far it's given me every reason to keep it for another 7 years and 115,000 more miles! :D

My guess would be that there weren't that many Renegades in the first place. Even though there are 3-4 black ones (including mine) in my area.

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting an '02 to '07 Liberty around South Jersey, out of all I see every day on the road, I could count the Renegades on one hand....including my own '05 Renny....

There's an auto junk yard not far from me, and I just might hit them up this Saturday to see if they have a set of factory skid plates......still can't believe Jeep sold Renegades without them as standard equipment.....

In '03, skid plates were standard equipment in the Renegade package along with the light bar, step bars, painted aluminum wheels, 160 amp alternator and "Tupperware" roof rack.

Yeah, it's largely statistical. I see one Renny for every 50 regular Libbys.

My renny is the good year, and yes i've got 117k on it and still not ball joint problems (although that is probably forseeable in the future) and it's lifted... yes it's a 03 with factory skids still on it, the only one that even has a lick is the gas tank skid... and its not too bad... (haven't had much time to wheel since i got it) but you want a light bar, i sell mine lights included for 450??? that's a deal right?? :jester:

That's because "Renegade" was an appearance package. Surf, you could have had skids had you ordered your's and ticked that box off.

Since when do alternators count as "Apperance"?

My 2004 came with skids and some locking thing in the rear, plus there was the towing package with the extra large fan. Something about the tire offset was different as well.

It would seem pointless to argue this. It's been hashed out over and over again and there doesn't seem to be a standard for the Renegade from one model year to the next.

Just for the record, my '05 Renegade did not have skid plates or a light bar on it when I bought it. I picked it up new with but 6 kms on it. It does have the 160 amp alternator and the tow package (HD cooling and a PS cooler) but alas, no skid plates. From what I can tell, there is no funny offset on the Renegade wheels either. It came with 225/75R16 GY SRAs which got swapped out with only 6k kms on them 'cause they sucked.

Skids don't matter a schmick, I've got a flat hood and the envy of all other KJs, that's all that counts. :D

Good luck finding a wrecked one anywhere.

Yes....I realize the Renegade "is" an appearance package just like the Sport, and Limited....

However the renegade package was "supposed" to be the more serious off road package. Up till '05 when they came out with the flat hood version, Renegades came with skid plates, light bar, and (for whatever reason) that ugly tupperware roof rack.

So why in '05 did they make skid plates and the light bar optional....?....it just doesn't make any sense to me at all......

Had I known then what I know now, I would of purchased the silver Renegade they first showed me, it had the light bar, ugly roof rack, and I'm willing to bet skid plates under neath as well......

I see Renegades all over the place here in Colorado. A shame they don't ever see dirt though.

Built Reny tough. Special space disovered metal used in the Reny to prevent bending, folding, denting, breaking down, and crashing. :JEEPIN:
