Hi,
I have severe tire wear on the inner driver side tire. Jeep doesn't have time to take a look at it today so I am bringing it in tomorrow. What could be the cause of this? I understand it could be an alignment issue but I believe it could also be ball joint issues. Does anyone have an idea? Also, if it is the worst case scenario, how much is a ball joint job for a jeep out of warranty?
Thanks!
My first vote is a bad alignment issue. It *could* be a ball joint, but I'd think if the ball joint were that bad, you'd be hearing clunking when you drove or turned corners, but I may be wrong about that.
Generally, anytime you have severely uneven tire wear like that, it's alignment. I knew a girl with a Honda Civic which was severly out of alignment, she knew it and drove with it anyway. One day she called me out to look at her tires, and her innter tire was so worn that when I ran my hand back there, I sliced it open on a bunch of the steel belting which was completely frayed.
