I am new to 4 wheel drive and don't know if this is normal or should I be concerned? I have noticed this a few times (nothing consistent) when in 2 wheel drive when stopped on a hill at a stop light or turning (pretty sharp) at a slow speed. My engine will rev higher than normal and my Jeep will hesitate, then get a clunk noise (like forcing into gear) and then normal driving. Not sure if this is normal for a Jeep. I know I had to get used to the little "bump" when stopping (still not sure what causes that, but have been assured its normal). Does anyone else notice this and know if I should have it looked at? Thanks in advance for any advice. |

first thing is to check your fluid level. That can cause a scenario like you described. |

Thanks, I'll check the trans fluid level tonight. I can see how that would make sense on a hill. But any ideas why I would get a similar scenario when I am turning sharp at a slow speed (usually notice when pulling into a parking spot)? |

RPMs raise when turning due to the extra strain on the engine caused by the power steering pump. It compensates by revving higher. You can sit still and turn the wheel with the engine running and you'll notice the rpm's go up while you're doing it. |
