Post subject:  Custom EXHAUST!!

Soo, I would like to upgrade the sound of my car.

Lets just say i want to stay under $200.

I have a Silver 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport w/ a 3.7L V6 (i also have a K&N Air Filter, if that makes a diff)

Any ideas, really any ideas. Anything from crazy loud to just a crisp sound.

I like the flowmaster, but i also like a straight pipe (leaving the Cat)

IDK what to do....Help...any ideas are appreciated

Thanks :JEEPIN:

First you do own a car....You have a Jeep
Second straight pipe on it will sound crappy
third Lots run Flowmasters but they do drone on the road
Magnaflow makes some good sounding yet not overly loud inside the cabin
Just throw a muffler on and use the stock tail pipe etc. Same size as aftermarket.

Lol. Yess, sorry, not car...JEEP

So, i think i would rather have a flowmaster bcz honestly i like when its loud, Ive got a really loud sound system, so a loud exhaust would be fine.
So, im guessing you would recommend a flowmaster then?

I've got a loud sound system too, but you aren't going to listen to it loud all the time. It's the drone from long trips in your vehicle... I've road in trucks/mine w/ different exhausts on long interstate trips and the drone will get to you after awhile.

I've gotta cheap thrush on mine and it sounds good enough...may go to a flowmaster someday, but this one is too new to throw out.

I have a flowmaster on one KJ and Magnaflow on the other. I prefer the Magnaflow for overall sound but the FM would handle rock beatings better.

Ok, so i understand that how loud it is may be an issue

BUT just wondering..

What does the "drone" sound sound like? im confused on that word

ANNNDDDD

How bad does a Straight Pipe sound if you DO NOT take of the Catalytic Converter???

Thanks a lot, keep up the responses, they are getting me wanna buy stuff

Mine wasn't bad at first but say at highway speed there is a constant droning inside where you can talk but its loud enough to make it hard to listen to the other person. Mine kept getting worse and finally had to get rid of it.
I have always ran straight open pipes on my Harleys and like that loud sound, but in the KJ give me enough toned down exhaust note to talk
Open pipe just sounded "cheap and like a tin can car " to me

i have the FM 44OR and everyone told me it would be loud and i had people say they took theirs back but honestly i don't think its loud enough. i drove from northwest Indiana to hot springs Arkansas and we didn't get affected by it at all. even if i have my sub on extremely low it usually over powers my Flowmaster. look on youtube there are a lot of videos where you can hear what it sounds like

Thrush universal fit high performance muffler.....just enough sound without being obnoxious, picked up a little power and slightly better mileage......

check out SpinTech.....

Very distinctive sound. at idle, it sounds like a 22 ft, chevy 383, wet manifold boat I had years ago.

about a c-note for the muffler.

Thanks for all the responses.
I think Im gunna go with a Thrush Turbo Muffler.

If you guys have any ideas on this let me know.
Such as leave the Cat., or gut it, or take it off? idk

Keep it legal, leave the cat on....

This is what I did, others may have done it differently....

With a saws all, I cut the pipe right at the muffler on both ends. You will notice that the piping is 2.5", but it reduces to 2.25" at the muffler. I got the Thrush with 2.25" connections, the inlet slide right over the pipe, one 2.25" clamp, and it was secure. On the outlet side I got an 18"X2.25" extension piece with one end flared, cut it to fit between the muffler and tail pipe, 2 - 2.25" clamps there, and I was done.

As I said, nice low throaty sound without being obnoxious, very little hiway drone.....I'm very happy with the results.

Thanks much SurfGuitar...btw nice name, i like it.

I am debating whether i should leave the cat on but gut it, Idk if anyone has done this... I want a loud vehicle. I honestly dont care, Ive had a loud one before and i loved it.

Id also get some money for the copper. Idk. what does anyone suggest on that?

I got a whole cherry bomb kit for right at 199 off ebay even got rid of the neck down and it sounds nice on my little Diesel it sounds like and SB chevy coming down the road. Also no major drone and I have no subs or audio upgrades. And if you like loud i got 3 15s and a 1600 and a 1400watt amp for sale. Promise you won't be disappointed but your nieghbors will definitely hate you. Mine did when i would come in rattling everyones windows along the way  .

I have a cherry bomb glasspack, clamped on in place of the stock muffler with no tailpipe. It was done by the PO and it is loud, I like it loud until I'm on the highway for more then a hour..
I want put a Flowmaster on someday, but found Flowsound on ebay for $40 shipped its a Flowmaster knockoff but only can find a offset inlet/outlet or center in and dual outs which I'm not sure how it would sound with those dual exits and no tail pipes....

A true dual from the cats back would be nice, with a possible H or X pipe, has anyone done this to a KJ?

Post subject:  Re: Custom EXHAUST!!

I dont have the glass pack design i have the new vortex which is a flow through almost. It has thier new baffling system which makes it act like a flow through creating almost no back pressure but keeping it quiet. Right up until you get on the skinny peddle then it wakes up and at anything above 30 you don't here it anymore then you did the stock. Also got a 2 mpg gain which should have it payed for in short order.

Be sure to let us know how it sounds!
Where did you get it from, and how much did it run you?
