So I did a search in the threads and came up with only a couple ideas with only a couple pics. I know I've seen pics in various threads that have shown locations because the pics happened to show it, but I thought it might be fun and helpful to SEE where you all are mounting your hi -lift jacks. I ordered some quick fist clamps that I can mount to my surco rack, but I'm not sure I'm going to use them yet (for the HL). I'm getting/ installing a lift soon and I know my stock jack doesn't even work now and my small hydraulic jack barely lifts enough to rotate tires, so I know a HL will soon be on the order, thus I'm searching for a good location that works for me. So if you all don't mind: What size jack do you have 48" or 60" (or something else)? = What amount of lift do you have = What brand of HL do you have = Where did you buy it = How much did you spend = Where do you lift from (I'm assuming aftermarket ARB type bumper folks probably use their front/ rear metal bumpers, but please note location anyway) = Where do you have it permanently mounted = And of course post a pic Please! |

I just got my franky... waiting to install it, and my hi-lift. I keep the hi-lift under the rear seats and it fits perfectly! I didn't want to keep mine out on my surco b/c someone might steal it. there. |

Thanks riptricket... That sounds like a great location, I'll add it to the list of possibilities. Do you have a 48" jack then, I imagine the 60 doesn't fit there? I'm not sure that's where I'll put it, but I won't rule it out yet. |

- 48" Jack - Swing gate handle is still accessable, and swing gate still opens with out issues. - Jack has been mounted there for a little more than 2 years, no issues. - held in place with 2 BF'n wing nuts, and locked to the carrier with a pad lock. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

SweepnChoke- Do you have plans/specs for that mount? I really like the look of it and wouldn't mind copying ya. Also, what size tire do you have mounted there?? I don't have massive tires yet on my rig but want to know if you had to extend the stock mount to fit your tire/rim and the HL? |

I don't have plans/specs per say, though I will have to finaly make some up as I have been asked to by a few people now. I can take some measurements later, and better photos, and post the info this weekend. But from the top of my head; It's about 20" of 1.25" square tubing that fits nicely in the rail of the jack. 2 Carriage bolts that go right through the square tubing and jack with 2 washers and wing nuts. The square tubing has an additional hole drilled through to allow the pad lock to go through the jack and tubing just like the carriage bolts. The square tubing is held to the spare tire carrier with 4 L brackets 3/16" thick. 2 brackets on the outside of the carrier and 2 on the inside securing the square tubing to the carrier (supports almost the entire length of the square tubing). The tire carrier has been turned upside down, and there is a spare tire spacer to push the spare tire out and a little down to allow the tailgate glass to open with the oversized tire. The tire in the pictures are 245/75/R16, but I am currently using 265/75/R16 with out any issues, tailgate glass still opens and clears the tire easily. The spare tire extension is from Rocky Road, haven't had any issues dealing with them, though I know others have. http://www.rocky-road.com/kjtirespace.html |

riptricket wrote: sweep did you paint you handle on your hilift? looks like it is barely used... That's because the photos were taken as soon as I had made the mount, the jack was only a month old or so at the time, had been stored inside, and the handle was protected by a sleave I made out of a bicycle tire innertube. The jack sure doesn't look like that now. |

So I'm resurrecting this thread. I know there is another thread titled HI-LIFT KJ Mount or something too, but I decided to resurrect this one. So I'm going to be purchasing a hi-lift jack in the near future and I don't have rock rails (yet) to lift it by. So I have a couple questions: 1) Is the wheel lift accessory really worthwhile? I mean, if you lift it by a specific wheel, but that's the wheel you need off, you'd have to lift it by that wheel, find something on the trail (or with you) to place somewhere under the JEEP, put it down then take that wheel off. And what happens if the axle/ hub something of that sort breaks, you'd have to lift it somewhere else.... I'm sensing to use the hi-lift to the best of it's ability on the trail, you'd want some sort of rock rails/ sliders, metal bumpers, etc. to fully utilize the hi-lift. Which brings me to my next question. 2) Over on Jeepforum there is a lot of debate over whether to place the hi-lift inside or outside the JEEP. Key things to consider, INSIDE; passenger safety, accessibility, keeping it operational (lubed, not dry). OUTSIDE: accessibility, operational ability (dirt, grim, road debris) etc. I guess what I'm getting at, is there is a lot of debate over if it is outside, it is accessible when you need it, but with road debris and grim, it has the possibility of not being usable when you need it (if maintenance lacks too long). My biggest concern with inside, is the best place inside the KJ to put it is under the seat. If you get in a tough predicament and the side of the KJ you need to pull it out from is slammed up against an embankment or tree, and you can't open the door, you're screwed because you can't pull the jack out of your KJ. So, for those of you more experienced wheelers and jack users, what is wisdom? Thanks! |

Best thing to do is keep it inside all of the time until you go offroad, then mount it on the rack or somewhere easy to access trust me after having them out in all kinds of weather they are not user friendly when you most need them. |

I think the best option would be to head to a local army surplus store or look around online for a munitions case that would fit the jack. Cut up a few of the GI sleeping mats that are made of dense foam to form fit the jack in the case to keep everything from sliding around and making a racket. Take the case and secure it to the cargo tie-downs in the back. Should be able to acces fairly easy that way, it would be kept all together for ease of use and sheltered from the elements. Also it would be easy to unload it if you needed to free up the space for something else temporarily. Just a thought ....

Thanks Tomudd & Liberty02sport for the ideas. I think I'll end up putting the quick grips I have on the rack for off-road and slide it under the seat for on road. I should have enough space under the seat even with all the "other" supplies I store under there. |
