My 2005 Liberty only has 41k miles on it. The rear pads are down to 2/32" and the fronts are at 6/32".

Why would the rear pads wear out before the front pads ?

What type (material ?) pads are the best and wear the longest ?

Welcome to the world of Traction Control and all that other computer assisted stuff that uses your brakes in some strange ways

in other words, it's pretty much normal

yes trade it in on an older model Kj without all of that garbage!
I had to finally replace my rear pads at 135,000 :-)r

You may check the rear calipers to make sure they are not dragging some as well though.

I didn't know it had Traction Control. ???? ABS, yes, but TC ???

How can I verify that it does in fact have Traction Control ?

BTW, I'm going with Performance Friction Carbon-Metallic front pads. I've had excellant results using them in several past vehicles (too include a couple Police Interceptor Crown Vics).

I went with Ceramics in the rear for longevity.

I agree that this is common, but I don't agree that it is because traction control.

I don't have TC, ESP or any of that other stuff other than ABS and I have very rarely used it. My rear brakes were out before my front brakes. My Jeep has 46K and I just changed them for the first time this weekend. My rears needed it pretty badly. My fronts could have went another 10K miles or more.

Also, my dad has a 2006 JKL and the rear brakes were just changed this weekend also. They were shot. I believe it has only 16K miles on it. Granted, it is used as a mail delivery vehicle, but the fronts still have quite a bit of meat left. It doesn't have ESP either that I know of.

Now, my 2006 T&C has ESP, but the brakes are wearing evenly.

if there was a recall for the calipers sticking....is there any info on it somewhere? i just replaced my rear rotors and pads last week and i think my passenger side is sticking because it is really hot and smells....also noticed some smoke the other day. i was going to replace the caliper tomorrow, but if there is a recall maybe i will let the dealer do it. anyone have details?

My read pads were worn out at 51k, front pads look like they are going to last well over 100k. No ESP or ABS here.

I've been noticing that my rear wheels get dusted a LOT worse than my fronts. This is definitely not normal. I wonder if the KJ has a proportioning valve like pickups that could be failing?

I found out why my rear brakes were getting so hot and wearing fast. Check out the "parking brake" thread just below this one.

The rear brakes on my '05 were toast at 21,000 miles, needed pads and rotors, fronts are still going strong.....

The stock calipers stick.....
