I just installed a new 48" Rage cargo roof rack from Discount Ramps. Easy to put together, seems well built, perfectly quiet at highway speeds. Big improvement over my rusty BVG adventure rack. Size is perfect for the KJ. $109 including shipping, came in 3 days. 15 minutes to assemble, on the Jeep on 10.

The main shortcomings are that the wind fairing isn't perfectly flat, although you have to look closely to notice. The u bolts that attach it to the roof are too long and could puncture bags etc., but seem secure and could be easily trimmed with a dremel.

We'll see how it holds up to the salty air here-- the ocean fog eats metal for breakfast.

All in all very happy with the purchase.

Just click on the link at the bottom of his post for picture.

Looks good and that's a pretty low price.

Installation hint: don't tight the screws holding down the fairing too tight. This keeps the fairing straighter and it doesn't rattle at all.

Kayadog.....I know what you mean about that salty air, I'm on the South Jersey coast, Atlantic Ocean on one side, the Delaware River on the other. If the wind blows in any direction but NW, we got salt all over everything, and when it blows out of the NE....we're swimming in it......

BTW...nice rack, if it wasn't for carrying surfboards I'd have one on my Libby.....

It actually works great for surfboards. I'm a bodyboarder but my friends boards go on fine. I use a pool noodle cut in half and they fit perfect on the bars. Also works great for my kayak and snowboard.

I grew up bodyboarding in Mantoloking and Bay Head NJ and wheeling in the Pine Barrens and Island Beach State Park.

Kayadog, how did you mount yours? Did you use cross bars? If so, where did you get them?

Mopar cross bars. I don't recommend them though since they are difficult to adjust.

What do you mean by difficult to adjust? I can get the Mopar cross rails for $139, which I think is a good price. I’m not sure what other cross rails are out there.

They have a rubber piece on top that is awkward to remove and the Allen bolts strip. Any cross bars-- Thule, Yakima, etc will work. Check out prolineracks.com. They have decent looking cheap ones. I'm sure discount ramps does too.

I've had the rack for quite awhile now and am happy. Some of the powdercoat is scraped off where I abused it but no rust yet and I live in a salty environment.

The other day the acrylic wind fairing shattered when I dropped my bike on it. I emailed Discount Ramps about it and in 4 days I had a free replacement with new hardware. Great customer service.

I sure don't like how they show the U-bolt. That'll rip through your cargo bags with ease. You'll have to cut them down. They should have done that for the picture.

I've got the BVG rack also. I believe the second person on here with it. Mine is just fine. I probably should've gotten the extension though.

This rack looks good and the price is pretty much unbeatable. It says backordered until November.

How's the wind noise with this rack?

I had the BVG Adventure Rack on my previous KJ (that I got new for $50 from overstock.com) and it was so loud that I sold it within 2 months.

Very little noise with the fairing. Quieter than the bvg and resists rust better.
