| Post subject: | Sylvania Silverstars on Sale |
Just wanted to let you guys know about a great deal on the Sylvania Silverstars. I went into Pepboys lastnight, I know I hate them as much as the next guy, they screwed me when I took in my Bronco a few years ago and I hate to support them in anyway... Talk about a runon sentence. Anyways, I found a rebate on there website that said the Silverstars were on sale for $29.99 plus a $10 mail in rebate, final cost $19.99. This is for a pair, not just 1... 2 sets for the price of 1. Anyways here is the link: go to the link> type in your zipcode> select your local store> type in Silverstar on the left> and the coupon will appear. It worked for me in SoCal, but I believe it is a national offer. Silverstar Again I hate to support PepBoys, but I couln't pass up this deal.

You are not going to beleive this, i just found another rebate that is being offered directly thru Sylvania: http://content.sylvania.com/app/display.aspx?id=003686299 It is an additional $5 off the purchase of a pair of Sylvania Silverstars... I am going to print this one out and send it in as well. FYI the first rebate was a Pepboys rebate. Revised Total cost after rebates, $14.99. The above link is PDF format. EDIT: You may want to check this site first to see if the rebate is good in your area: just enter your zipcode http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/LightingForHome/CouponsAndRebates/ |

Do they really light up the road any better, or do they just look cool? |

I have had them on previous vehicles and they definitely provided better light. I have read other posts with mixed reviews on these lights. The one complaint I have had about these lights as that in my experience they did not last very long, and I would not pay full price for them, $40 is a lot. However to get them at better then half off, I could not pass that up. You may want to do a little more research before you buy em, but try and get em before 2-11-06 so you can get the full sale price at Pep Boys… Oh how I hate to even write that name. |

Go get the new Consumer Reports on SUV's magazine. They did testing on replacement bulbs (including the Silverstars) and none really did better than the OEM bulbs. Yes, I know CR is paid for by certain groups when the studies/tests are done, but......still quite evident they don't shine much better than OEM's. |

Ive had these lights on a few different cars and they all only lasted a few months. They work good and look even better but are very expensive to replace constantly. I always carried my OEM bulbs in the trunk because i knew the Syl ones would die at a bad time. Having said all that, im going to try them yet again today....thanks for the info! |

I think the best test would be to use a light meter like photographers use.. Then you can actually get a measurement of actual light being produced.. Atleast in theory it should work.. I think... Ben |

My Silverstars have lasted almost 2 years. IMO it provides better light. I tried putting my OEM bulbs back in to do a comparison and couldn't drive more than a block away from my house without turning around to put the Silverstars back in. |

Well, I picked up 2 sets via the coupon and rebate yesterday! Initial thoughts after installing them last night: 1. Glad I have small hands because swapping the headlights was a pain 2. They are definitely whiter when you look straight onto them, had to squint much more... that's my subjective take on the light output. 3. Since they are a whiter/cleaner light it seems like it will make night driving easier when there are no street lights 4. Fog lights were replaced with Silverstar 9005's (trimmed them with a Dremel)... 5. Wow... the fog lights are much brighter for sure and should really help to see better when driving back roads. 7. Kewl factor for all lights looking white now . . . Way Up! FYI... for those with really short life times on their bulbs . . . it could be that the bulb was contaminated by touching it... they run hotter than Halogens and any kind of dirty/oily substance on the bulb will affect it's life. |

AFornal was this for 1 headlight or for the set? The offer I found was for the set/ 2 bulbs. I also installed them lastnight and there is a dramatic difference in the color and the amount of light they put out. I am completely satsified with them. |

I think the Consumer Reports study was about seeing farther, not necessarily clearer close up. |

All you need to know is here: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... +fog+light I found the tutorial on Jeepprojects.com especially useful in deciding on the upgrade or not! |
