I went to Home Depot today and picked up 20 landscape timbers. According to their web site they weight 31 pounds each. Total = 620 pounds. I took a measurement from the ground to the bottom of the wheel well above the tire: 34.25" with the wood and 36" empty. So it pushed down the rear end 1.75". Not to bad! Does that sound like the right amount of sag? Seems like a pretty good test of the lift on it. Terry

I cannot comment on the sag, but I can say this is one of the reasons why I love my liberty. Its a true hauler for its size. |

well while we are on the weight subject this question came to my mind, for people who weigh an excessive amount and are able to drive; do they have a stiffer suspension on one side usually specially done for them or..just always wondered how that would effect the life of the spring and if it wears on the suspension/steering at all |

I've been wanting to either find an easy way to remove the door or fabricate (fabrigate?  ) something to prop it open so it won't move when opened. I had someone back up the jeep with it open once and it swung out and whacked a telephone pole.  Fortunately it hit the wheel and didn't do any damage.I've had 1,100 LB of shingles in the back of mine. I think that's over the limit, but I can't remember. Add 200LB of me and that's a lot of weight. I noticed that the jeep sagged down signifigantly after the first few hundred pounds and then it settled less for the remainder. I remember thinking, 'at this rate the back wheels will be inside the jeep,' but it didn't happn. I still had some suspension travel on the way home, but I noticed that I had greater stopping distance, acceleration suffered and I'm sure gas mileage did too, but it was a short trip. Got the job done. |

Add some OME HD springs and it goes up. Just keep in mind you still shouldn't exceed the GVWR of 5650 lbs. |

I have hauled many different things with the Liberty and have been pretty happy with it's abilty. However I have never done so with the tailgate swung open, I always open the tailgate window, leave the tailgate closed and feed my lumber through the window. I have a big pool noodle with a slit in which I put over the top of the tailgate it to keep the lumber from damaging the rubber at the top of the tailgate. My concern with driving while the tailgate is open wouldn't be the tailgate swinging around, but rather the downward force on the tailgate hinges while bouncing around on the drive home. |

Get some air bags and you'll never need to worry about the extra weight again. It'll handle much better also. |

I put 2000 pounds in the back of my XJ once. Thank gawd for air shocks. Also, I dunno what a Dana 60 weighs, but I put one of those back there too. |

That's what I have on the Tahoe for the heavy loads like hauling cars on trailers, etc. makes a world of difference. Mine are 1500 or 2000# bags, not that I would ever need that much, 60-80# of air makes it just right. My wife's stock Libby drops with almost now weight in back. |

20 bags of horse bedding pellets at 40 lbs each... 800 lbs, last week. That's about the most I've put inside at once. Saw someone had 10 "railway ties", 6x8" x 10' long on FreeCycle recently... I really wanted them but wasn't sure about hanging them out the back of the Jeep and my trailer is only 6' long. Someone else snapped'em up anyways  I too love the hauling capacity of the Liberty, it makes a great little hobby-farm truck. Now if my dad decides to sell me his 2000 Ranger, I may have to add that to the stable
