Ok, so some of you have seen my video on facebook, some just saw my post So my engine was acting up after it was cold out the other day...so i let it sit in the garage over night and turned it on after 24 hours of sitting...still making the terrible noise, and wont even go past 3000 rmp or it dies My codes read P 0306 (cylinder 6 misfire) P 0523 (oil pressure failure) If anyone has any information to help that would be great. -Steve |

Is your oil light on? If so have the oil pressure checked via a manual gauge screwed into the oil pressure sensor port.Might be one of the 1st oil pump failures that I have heard of in a KJ. |

it was on one day for like 3 minutes. Then i went to the closest parking lot and turned off the jeep and checked if the cap was tight and stuff...the turned it on and everything was fine...that happened about a week ago. Now the engine light is flashing and you know the rest. |

Well I can't watch the vid,I will never go to a place like facebook or myspace, those 2 places along with starbucks are why this country is they way it is now. But moving on I would still check the oil pressure,I'd also move #6 coil to another spot and see if the misfire code follows,if it does replace that coil,if not check the plugs. If that all pans out time to take the valve cover off and check the valve train. |

I think the engine is toast...and if it is, I might have to say goodbye to lost...sucks because i never did a single thing to hurt the engine |

How did you come up with these findings? If you need a new engine and no $$$$ I would start talking to your insurance company if you have full coverage on the KJ,if liability your SOL. |

Well how do you know what is broken? Need to teardown the engine or drop the oil pan(which is not a easy job on a KJ) to confirm a broken connecting rod unless you have a hole through the side of the block. |

Have you swapped coil packs as TJKJ stated before? Just to see if the misfire code moves around? |

STINGN wrote: how do you get the oil pump out of the kj...if that is what is broken what would i need to do to get to it? Well if you read that FSM the oil pump is not a easy job on a 3.7. It would personally swap the coils around and check that 1st,only run long enough to set the light or pull the coil connector off when running to see if that has any effect on how the engine runs. If you do not feel okay doing that I would pull the oil pans drain plug, see if any metal chunks come out.If you can find someone with a borescope or a flexible camera with a light i would poke through the oil pan drain and have a look around. |

I'll check to see if my borescope is in my pelican case with some of the other stuff but.. i'm hesitant to say it is.. i'm pretty sure it's laying ontop of my toolbox in NC after the 14th.. if you need anything, do not hesitate to ask.. unfort. till then i'm locked up tight schedule wise |

Either that or take an old speaker magnet and drag it along the pan to the drain plug hole. It should pick up any metal particals and atleast get them close to the drain hole. I am Troy i would check my coil packs first because it could just be a miss fire making the engine run really rough. Don't give up on her yet. |

I'm thinking that if oil is not getting to the valve train that it would effect what's going on in the cylinders. |

Did you take off the valve cover to check?? I mean, your engine did sound an awful lot like mine when it blew, but for mine, I could see a big hole in the side of the block. lol I've never been in cold enough weather to hear what a true cold engine sounds like, so I could be wrong. |
