Ive done a lot of reading about this... From my knowledge putting a pre can bus 4.7 should be my easiest. i.e 1999-03 Jeep Grand Cherokee From what i read somewhere is that the mounting points are identical on the 3.7 to 4.7 the 4.7 motor is just longer up front is this correct? Custom radiator Will the computer talk to the gauges etc inside the vehicle? Its all just a general program correct.. All the cluster does is read general signals posted from various sending units... oil, water temp.. etc I dont think over the same company there would be huge changes within the same generations of motors... I will be able to use my 02 45 trans Just need the motor, wiring harness and computer... Right? Thoughts? This coming from a guy that put an lt1 camaro motor into a fiero for fun! I think I'm going to pioneer this route, I feel optimistic!!! lol |

I think what Tom WAS talking about was Wildman's neverending install thread! I don't think anyone would try to talk you out of it either... Waaaaaaaaaaay to entertaining to see! |

So Outside of Engine mounts(if they are identical) and communication between instruments and new engine.. I dont think it can be that big of a deal! at least there is some aftermarket support for this motor! cams heads etc not like the hemis but now thats a project!! Edit****** Just talked to someone... They said 4.7 not worth it due to power gains problems generally with the motor. etc....They did a hemi swap!!$@$@#@#@#! a 6.1 in a libby NOW THIS WILL START A THREAD !$@#@! He said to make things a lot easier use a 5.7 its actually narrower than the 3.7 4.7 makes a lot more power... the only change would be a diesels trans the 5.7 bolts right to it!!! and custom mounts... The hardest part he said was cooling.... Getting the biggest radiator you can possibly fit and hood loovers/cowl to bring in more cool air... He said it was not to difficult in an SFA'ed jeep.... Dont know what the biggest difference is? cross members? Theres a company that already has a setup that works for putting a hemi in.. Which they've used in dakotas... you just run two sets of computers run the ones for the motor trans... then use a dummy harness to power existingings to run gauge cluster etc Thats what the company told me... Honestly anything can be done all it takes is money. Guess, Ill have to look at the cost difference in motors.. The gentleman told me that 5.7s are cheaper and easier to come across plus added reliability. |

I think it would be a good idea actually. Just make sure you do your research and I think it could go along great. |

Have never seen anyone get "mad" over this topic and i've been here a long time, so not sure what you are talking about. But also have heard quite a few that have said "I'm doing this and watch me" only to have them disappear. Not saying it can not be done. Heck I have spent a few hours helping Larry measure, cut, mount, read etc on his so far but its not a simple straight on bolt in like you make it sound I could tell you of some of the problems you'll run into but, I'll wait since you think iI am against you doing it! As for dropping a small block in a Fiero it's almost childs play, real easy and fun afterwards |

Well im not going anywhere..... I mean bad things can always happen and put a hindrance on things. Tom , I don't mean mad literally, more as in crazy... These topics go wild quickly lol!! Theres never any guarantees... but no matter what happens if there are enough of us chiming in all the time theres bound to be someone stupid enough like me to try it!! Yes! My V8 Fiero was a blast... the other swap I did was a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300cc sportbike motor into a suzuki swift... (Geo Metro) No relevance to the topic.. Just saying. |

The gentleman told me that 5.7s are cheaper and easier to come across plus added reliability. I'm going to have to call BS on a HEMI swap into a KJ.The HEMI is massive compared to a 3.7/4.7,I measured already and it just would not fit between the fenders and still retain enough strength to actually drive it,let alone wheel it.Plus there is just no room for that 7qt oil pan(if staying IFS) and adding headers would leave no room for the steering shaft. Trust me I have measured and measured and measured some more and why I have settled on a 347 SBF which is shorter(hieght wise),narrower, and only a few inches longer then the 3.7(when funds permit due to family issues right now).My co-workers laugh at me when I'm under a customers vehicle with my tape measure. Now a Viper V10 would fit like a glove execpt you would need to push the front out 8",yep even measured one in a SRT10 pickup. |

I would have to say tjkj is right it is bigger than a 3.7 and I work in the plant that builds the 3.7 there is a big diff in motor you will have to change out all the seniors and anything that may fit the wireing harness they are diff in routing and the way the plugs fit in to the main harness of the jeep not saying it can't be done just would take a lot of work I have been working on this for 2 years now and still do not have it all layed out .just my

OK here's my nickel's worth Wildman, Buggin and I have seen personally a small block Ford sitting down in the engine bay of the KJ with that said, there is not a whole lot of room even with it, with steering linkage, installing headers and down pipes, room for the radiator and everything else. Its going to work and will have room to change plugs etc, but its not a whole lot of wiggle room. If a Hemi was installed in one they must of done quit a bit of cutting and running a tube frame or something, just isn't the room some think you have there. So the Hemi in a KJ same as always Pics or it never happened |

Yeah I'm going to give Dan a call in the morning,I'm sure he got confused and was thinking JK.He got confused a few times when I have talked to him,he thought I was talking about a JK instead of a KJ since TJ/JK's are what they mostly work on. |

Okaaaayyy, try this. Look at the pictures of the room I'm ending up with like Tom said. There is only about an inch clearance to the steering shaft, and I will end up with about 4 inches clearance between the rad and the front of the motor, and that's before the electric fan goes in. Even then I'm still not going to say it CAN'T be done, just like TJKJ says tho', there will need to be some MAJOR clearance issues worked out. I'm still working out the issues with the SBF. Check the driver's side clearance, it actually looks from this shot like there is more room than is actually there. ![]() and then it's not that great of a picture but here is a closer one of the steering shaft clearance to the motor mount. The MM pretty much had to go here due to other issues such as trans and crossmember mounts. I realize you have done swaps before, but there is really just not that much room to work with once you start putting things in where they NEED to be. ![]() A shop like Burnsville may be able to work some of this out for enough money though so .......

Has anyone thought about waiting a year or so and getting a new Pentastar out of a wrecked donor vehicle? It is light, has a flat torque curve and with direct injection and a turbo should be north of 400HP. Since it is Mopar and a V6 instead of a V8-- it might fit also easier. In the meantime, you can save your pennies and do other mods. |

tommudd wrote: As for dropping a small block in a Fiero it's almost childs play, real easy and fun afterwards This is a lot like the things I do. People always tell me Im crazy and it can't be done. That just makes me wanna do it more just to prove that it can be done. Like my Malibus for example. I have an 81 wagon with a manual trans that I just finished. I had about 10 people say it couldn't possibly work. I did it in less then a week. Or my 79 Malibu, 500ci big block! All I herd was "it's never gonna fit" It fits just fine! You wanna talk about fun, take a beat up old brown wagon with rust all over it, stuff a big block in it, and drive it like your 90. I LOVE embarrassing "Japanese vehicles" in it, they think there turbo honda's so fast I say go for it! Sure there are gonna be some headaches, but what engine swap is ever simple? Ever seen a Cherokee with a big block? I have, Im sure the hemi will go in just fine. See my sig, it explains everything! |
