So I'm getting a vibration while driving at speeds of 45-65 mph. Balance issue right, wrong. I have brand new 245/75/16 destinations. All aligned, lower ball joints good, replaced upper ball joints and re aligned. Had two shops and myself checked wheel hub bearings all okay. While driving at those speeds when the vibration starts I shifted to 4 wheel hi and the vibrations go away. The vibration noise sounds like its moving with the speed of the tires. I'm confused, Front drive shaft out of balance?, what do you guys think?
I'm planing on taking out the drive shaft today and drive around to see if it goes away. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in. advance.

When my u-joints went out I would have put money on that it was coming from front. Ended up being the u-joints

I am currently having the exact same problem.

Had this vibration back in April, changed the rear U-joints and it was smooth as glass all Summer. Now,the vibration is back again. Checked my rear U-joints and they are OK. Had the tires rebalanced twice. Vibration still there. So I'm betting on the front driveshaft now.

Replacements are $350-$500. Yesterday a guy posted a thread about actually rebuilding the CV joints in the stock shaft. This might be worth looking into.

How did they balance the new tires?

I ask because I got new Destinations put on a year or two ago and I got a front end vibration just like you are describing. Found out that the guy did a static balance instead of a dynamic balance. The other guy at the shop I use rebalanced them correctly and no more vibration.

Im assuming you did re-balance the tires at a reputable place. Just because your tires are new does not mean that they could have had a bad machine/bad calibration. It only takes a slight calibration error or a few hundred miles to start effecting the tires balance.

10-4 I'm going to do this instead of buy a new shaft. Will probably be another month or two...money is tight right now. But it's getting done soon for sure. Dumb question.. do I need to do both ends or just the end near the t-case? I haven't even taken the shaft out of the Jeep yet. Are there CVs on both ends?

Since getting my Moabs installed I have the same thing. I hit 42 mph and insti-massage chair. I am sure it is the tires, Discount tire by my house does a piss poor job balancing tires but the Big O will steel from you. Screwed either way, lol.

Sorry guys, didn't have time to pull the drive shaft today. However I did check the fluids rear was good to go. The front a little low and was filled.

The problem stated before I got new tires. I had 255/70's prior to the 245/75.I had the tires balanced and all are good so they say. there is no play in the cv joint so I'm guessingI'm going to try re balancing the drive shaft.By the way my tires are on the stock wheels.

you driveshaft isnt going to magically go out of balance. pull it, drive it and make sure thats the problem. if not it could be the rear driveshaft u joints or maybe the passenger side inner axle/cv. could be a multitude of things but you should rule out everything possible before just replacing parts and wasting money.

Just did one, finished 5 minutes ago, it would take longer taking the shaft out than what it does to swap the head, and yes only the transfer case side needs done
Super easy to do

Okay, its been awhile since I updated. Got to be honest I never had a chance to remove the front drive shaft. However, I drove from Cincinnati, ohio all the way to harrisburg, pennsylvania. No vibration? drove a week there and all the way back home to cincinnati. No vibration?. Its gone why I have no idea. Does anyone know what might be going on? I'm not complaining that its gone just don't understand why it would suddenly disappear. Thanks for any feedback.

No I don't think so. At the time the vibration started we hd no bad weather and I had not been playing in the mud anywhere. Also, I haven'tt washed the libby in a few weeks . If there was/is mud ice or snow stuffed I'm there, there is allot more now. Still not feeling the vibration anymore. I'm going to give it a good cleaning within the next day or two and see if it returns. Thanks for the replies. Anymore ideas are welcome. I'll update you guys after the scrubbing.
