After driving home from work today I needed to fill up some windshield washer fluid. After popping the hood I almost fainted. My K&N air filter had popped off and was just sitting there with the air tube totally exposed. I could not believe it! :furious:  No idea how it happened or when. No idea if and for how long I was driving around like that. I finally reinstalled it. I'm thinking possibly from the cold weather it popped off and/or possibly I never put it on correctly after cleaning the filter in the summer. Anyone know if I would happen to have any engine damage? No engine light ever went on either.

You should be fine. To be honest, I had a K&N like you for a long time and went back to the stock airbox with an Amsoil dry filter. I saw an increase in mileage immediately and no discernable loss of performance. Just food for thought :2cents: :)

really no big difference on or off, k&n barely filters anything anyway, unless it is loaded up and real dirty.

Thought you guys would find this interesting. Apparently K&N filters better than the Amsoil filter.

sure wish that really old test would go away. Amsoil does NOT sell that type of filter any more and hasn't for years. They changed to a better filter media, dry type. Oiled cotton gauze or foam is old tech and not worth the time or $$. Dry media filtration is the way to go.
