After purchasing the Steiger window regulator repair kit for about $100, and being jerked around by the dealer, who wants a $100 co-pay to do the job, I've been thinking about a DIY repair for the other window regulator which just bit the dust.

This appears to be the redesigned Jeep part:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B004FPN00S/ref=dp_image_text_0?ie=UTF8&n=15684181&s=automotive

It might be possible to replicate this by purchasing a nylon spacer similar to this:http://www.amazon.com/Nylon-Spacer-0-500-0-257-Screw/dp/B000FP6GO4
The remnants of the failed cable retainer would be ground off the original plastic clip and the spacer would be plastic welded to it.

A wedge anchor similar to this would be used to secure the cable: http://www.stainlessclamp.com/productsimages/wedgeanchor_145732.jpg

The nylon spacer and wedge anchor would have to be correctly dimensioned, of course.

What year and which window? I've got an 06 CRD and just had the rear window drivers side break for 2nd time since I bought it new. 1st replacement was under standard warranty period. 2nd repair just done couple weeks ago and milage/time not under warranty, but dealer called Chrysler and it was covered also, no charges. Said repair TSB was extended because of faulty "top plate" of regulator. Apparently there is also a post about this on this forum of Jeep extending window reg. repair. Good luck

It's the right rear window on an 06, but those built before April aren't covered by the extended warranty. Chrysler would authorize the dealer to do the work, but I would have had to pay $100 co-pay. Since replacement clips are offered on EBAY for $60, I would rather buy one and do it myself. Of course, if I can kludge my own clip for $10 or so, I'd rather do that.

Mine's also an 06 bought it in Dec. 05. Do search on this forum and there is a letter someone posted from Chrysler/jeep in regard to Jeep "extending" repair "beyond" original warranty period. Like I said in my previous e-mail, mine broke and I took it to the dealer. They originally said it would take a day to get the part and that is was not a warranty repair. I produced a copy of the letter I printed from this site. They had someone at their dealership look into it and "viola" found "it is" an item that I think repair had been extended for several years beyond 05-06 that were the years that had this problem. Problem in order to repair if I remember correctly "had" to be top plate failure. They fixed it and didn't charge me "anything" for parts or labor. If your dealership gives you the go around, I'd check with another with letter in hand to show them.

I had several conversations with Chrysler and the dealer all with the same requirement for the co-pay.
The co-pay offer was only good for 30 days. Just before it expired, Chrysler called me up to remind me that the offer was going to expire soon.

I did the rear left side with the Steiger kit. It was just about as easy as leaving the rig at dealer or waiting there for them to do the work.

$100 for the Steiger kit seems like a rip-off. It looks to me like it should be selling for $30 or less.
The market says otherwise, though.
