Post subject:  CHROME DOOR HANDLE REMOVAL

Ok so over the summer at cross country practice the part of the chrome came off of my door handle. At first I was bummed, but then the lack grew on me... jeeps dont need chrome :D So my question is... Has anyone else taken the chrome off of thier door handles, I want the rest to be black but dont know how to do it. I'm guessing I could just pop them off with a flat head and wash away the residue later... is there a better way? This is what it looks like now...

I know someone that used a heat gun very carefully to remove his because they were glued on. He then used goo be gone to take off the stickies.

Thanks! Sounds like that would be the best way to do it without causing damage to something else... altough that would mean my jeep would need more attention

To save yourself having to buy one, if you know any electricians a heat gun is a tool of the trade for them. After they do any intricate wiring they wrap it in electrical tape and then put the gun to it to shrink it.

Also anyone that removes and replaces/repairs floor tiles. They use heat guns also.

Could I also use a hair dryier for this?

you could try a hair dryer but it may flow too much air to far and wide to do the job quickly. A heat gun is usually a few levels of heat and more controled air flow. be careful not to get the plastic too hot you could melt the handles. And it good to see you want to loose the Chrome. Chorme is sometimes nice on some vehicles but not so much Jeeps. Chrome don't get you home!!!

I used a hair dryer to remove my Jeep badges. That reminds me, I need to send off your Jeep badges asap this week. I forgot :banghead:

Haha I hate those chrome handles! I got them off by heating them with a hair dryer and them poping a flathead underneath(very carefully)
And I totaly forgot to blackwidow! Thanks again! :pepper:
