2002 is the best.
3/4" higher from the factory(although its probably sagged out bad), 45RFE tranny which is stronger that the 42RLE in the others, light up buttons(windows, locks, etc.), and I think they look better.

Just curious... Looking at Craigslist in the Grand Rapids area, it appears the overwhelming majority of Liberties for sale are 02's. Coincidence or problematic? The easy answer is because they are the oldest... But as I said, it's an overwhelming majority. Not just mostly 02's, then lot's of 03's, etc... Ton's of 02's then just a few of the other years. You get my point. /rambling. |

No idea why that would be in your area. Here there are few Liberty's in the Paper or Craigslist of any year but plenty on used lots if you look for them. there is an '02 on a lot I drive past on the way to/from work with $8990 in the window. could be that they are the oldest and people just want to upgrade. I know there is an issue with the transmissions from the older ones not mating up with a newer gas V6 if you need to do an engine swap. |

02's are a great year. Not problematic. Only the 06-07's are, and even those really aren't... |

It probably just seems that way. I have actually noticed there are A LOT of '08 coming up for sale around here. I think a lot of them are coming off of leases so the market seems to be flooded with them. With '02's being the first year it could just be that they are changing hands more since they've been around the longest. |

I believe 02 and 03 were the highest years for sales for the kj. I would say its just a combination of how many were sold that year, and its in the year range where people are starting to trade up. |

Mine is a 2002 and I love it. No major problems with mine and I have around 125k on it. Swapped out the UCA, did some transmission valve body work but that is it. Solid Jeep. I would buy one again. |

Cool. Thanks for the replies. Not sure what we will buy, but I won't rule out the 02's then. Just seemed weird how many were listed. Wanted to know if they were a troubled year model that should be avoided. Thanks again. |

Well, we've had great luck with our '04. We bought it new November of '03 and have over 140,000 miles on it. Hope to have it for years to come. Oh, and they look the best.

I bought my 02 Renegade new and it's been great. My wife and I liked it soo much we bought her an 02 Sport in 2005. I beat the crap out of mine and it never breaks down. She babies hers, and there's constantly something wrong with it, go figure. |
