Hey im new here, been on jeepforum awhile usually looking for parts and stuff for my tj but came across this place after my moms liberty decided to bite it.

jeep is an 02 liberty 3.7 4wd
long story short over the weekend moms jeep had trouble starting and staying running, figuring it was just plugs i start pulling them and found that plug on the the front cylinder on the pass side(im not sure which way the firing order is right now) was covered with oil and hammered. Looked in the cyl with a scope and saw a puddle of oil on one side and part of the rings on the other side.
right now the jeep isnt moving until i find either another motor, or the parts needed to fix this one.

my big questions are, is there a reliable source for a reman engine? junkyard motors keep me somewhat nervous not knowing the previous history. i also stumbled on some talk of rebuilding what we have. parts availability is my only concern with that.

so which would be the most cost effective method? i have no problem working on the motor, the only thing i would need is a decent manual and knowledge of any special tools i will need.
i would even do a different motor providing its fairly straightforward.

my only other restrictions are time, my mom isnt the biggest fan of the replacement vehicles she gets, either my tj on 32's or our 88 commanche with a glasspack that gets more attention than she wants.

thanks for any advice or other help
