My 2003 Jeep has had a burnt oil smell in it for a little while now. I could never really pin point it. Last night when I parked it you could see faint oil smoke in the passenger side headlight. Long story short it looks like it is coming off of the O2 sensor right under the heater assy. My question is where do you think it is coming from? Is there a know issue with this? Are the valve covers know to leak on these? Maybe a sensor? I'm not very familiar with these motors. I'm getting ready to lift it soon. So while I have it on the lift I'd like to replace it also.
Thanks,

sounds like the valve cover, mine leak(ed) on that side as well, oil would collect on the exhaust at the down turn at the o2 sensor and burn off

I'm glad the thread posted. I kept getting all kinds of errors. I'd given up!!! :D

Thanks, that's what I was thinking also. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an oil line or sensor back there I didn't know about.

My valve cover sprung a leak on the passenger side as well. It was a really slow leak, but enough to run down on the exhaust manifold and stink. New valve cover gaskets solved that problem. Over filling with oil may cause this when the gaskets are weak and added pressure in the crankcase from a stopped up PCV valve.

When the engine is cold run your finger along the bottom of the valve cover gasket and see if you come up with oil.

Same thing happened to my wife's 03 KJ. Replaced the Passenger side Valve Cover Gasket and fixed that issue. Be prepared though as this is not as simple... or as complicated... as you'd think. Should be some threads on here to assist if needed.

Thanks for the info guys. I will do a search. I just bought all of the front suspension parts off of Amazon. Now I just need to get a set of these and figure out if I'm going to lift it or leave it stock height.
