Have done a search but can't really find anything that relates to this odd noise I have intermittently. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, but every once in a while I have what sounds like something "venting" from behind the center of the dash. It sounds more like it might be on the engine side of the firewall and it sounds like pressure has built up in something and its a release of some sorts.

Anyone have any idea of what it is? Passengers are like WTF is that??? It can be a bit embarrassing when the Jeep just "farts" like that.. LOL.

When we first got our KJ, my wife and I noticed a similar sound.
I traced it to the A/C compressor.

That's interesting, because I have noticed it with the AC off. It actually happened today while sitting in traffic only had the dash vents on with no AC and the fan on 1.

possibly could be the HVAC blend door closing if you shut the blower to the off position

Its not happening after I do something. I could be driving for an hour and not touch any of the controls then all of the sudden its like a small pop or poof noise followed by a sound almost like "errrrrrrr" that gets softer as it proceeds. Almost like an air bladder has filled up and a pressure release valve is venting it. Think of a turbo blow off but at a much quieter level and slower rate.

I was reading all the old posts on one of the other KJ sites and someone tracked the "farting" to a bad coolant reservoir cap I think. Little rubber gasket / ring was not sealing well? I tried to find the post but I have read so much in the last week that I lost track of where I read it. Worth a look under the hood and much less cash than an A/C issue.

My wife told me her's was doing the same thing few weeks ago, I never drive it. It usually happened when she turned the corner, she said it sounded like a marble rolling across the dash or something, coming from center to passenger side. Once I drove it, it sounded more of a gurgling sound. I traced it to the coolant in overflow being slightly low. Filled up to proper level and sound went away. I think when she turned corner and the coolant was low enough, it would develop an air pocket in hose then release, proper fluid level took care of it.
Some GM's I've had would do the same, it gets an air pocket trapped in heater and then releases.

Coolant cap makes tons of sense. Thanks for recommending that, not sure why I didn't think of it. Will check it tomorrow.

Oh and as for the rolling marble, yeah I get that occasionally too and it sounds like its right behind the radio and usually happens during acceleration from a stop. I have always planned on one day replacing the radio and looking at it then. Was thinking it might just be something that dropped in a vent or something during assembly and wasn't enough to really bother me to the point of ripping the dash apart.
