I know this topic is older, but is anyone with an '06 or older running 5w20 like the spec '07 and newer run? I know it is a little controversial as to whether it offers enough protection, but i believe some new studies state that it will actually protect better that the 5w30 in various applications. What are your opinions if you have run both?

mmmm , will be interesting to see what everyone says.

I have (7) 5 quart containers of Mopar 5W20 sitting in the garage wondering what to do with it

I use 5w30 mobile 1 synthetic. Works very well and I wouldnt want to use a lighter oil, even such a slight difference like 5w20.

Same as what I use, got this in a package deal with a load of parts so just seeing what all it goes in, do know Hemis with cylinders that shut off to conserve fuel takes 5W20 so it will work correctly, not sure what else though.

I am new to the Jeep lifestyle but I am learning plenty from all of you and thank you for that. I am sure that most of you have forgotten more than I will ever know but here's my 2 cents.

I bought my 07 with 33k on it and the same week I changed the plugs, all the fluids, and added an Amsoil air filter, and a LTT CAI. I went with the Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic. The lifters chattered something awful for 3k and I thought I did something wrong and they were going to come through the hood. I now use 4 qts of the Mopar 5w20 and a qt of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer every 5k-6k and it runs like a dream. I run interstate 99% of the time and the oil still looks new at 5k. I am sure the Amsoil air filter has a lot to do with it. That thing is amazing! I also know the Lucas has lots to do with it because I used it for 225k on my 2004 Explorer with zero issues.

I am sure the CAFE standards have everything to do with the lighter weight oil but I am very pleased with it.

I'm running 5w20 in my 3.7 just because that's what the owners manual says to use. I prefer Valvoline Maxlife myself because my 07 has 76000 miles. :JEEPIN: I have an 05 F-150 with the 4.6 and the owner's manual says to use 5w20 in it also.

I agree. My 07 came with the "lifetime" powertrain warranty, but I'm still using 5w30.
