Post subject:  tire pressure gauges

i hate those darn electronic pressure monitors, but they can be useful.

this past weekend i was trying to recalibrate mine since i had a tire rotation. doesn't seem to work, and it did the last time i tried. granted i have cragar soft 8's, but it *did* work with my cragar's before. i can't even get past the left front tire.

anyone have ideas on if this is a dealership issue? i loathe going there.

If you have the EVIC on your KJ, then you need to have the magnet donut in order to do it -you need to retrain the system
If you do not have the magnet donut, let me know - I've got one xtra I bought without knowing mine was stuck on the top of the tire jack.
I retrained mine 3 times already - 1 tire rotation, 1 new tire change, 1 new tire rotation - all 3 times no problems - you've got to place the magnet on each tire for the system to read it.

any marginally strong magnet should do....i used the magnets attached to the cheap oem (non-infinity) sport speakers to train my sensors. had to position it just right tho, so the donut would probably be more convienent.

I guess I wasn't clear: I have the donut, and I've done it in the past. But it doesn't work anymore. I'm just curious to know if anyone's had problems with it in the past.

I've done it 3 times with no problems - I'll do a quick check in a bit again and jot down the steps.
The key to make sure it is working fine is to make sure you do not take too much time between pressing the re-train key on the EVIC and getting to the first tire - and when you put the donut in, you've got to hear a chirp in your horn - if it does not chirp, then it is not reading at all.
Check back in 1/2 hr

Update: - just did it again
no problems at all - just got to make sure magnet fits perfectly in place - very snugle.
steps - just to make sure....

Press Menu - re-train tire sensor
press step to change to yes
press menu again
place magnet on front left tire
hold in place until horn chirps once - move it around a bit until chirp
move to next tires
done
No probs at all
If it does not work, then there might be a need to re-set EVIC to factory settings - you will loose all info there of course
is there a way to re-set EVIC to factory settings - Do not know

Hope it helps

Is there anyway to do this w/o an evic?

To use the magnet, you need an evic or a service computer. I find that they recalibrate themselves preety well without an evic.

I found this post via a search, but I'm confused, why do you need to 're-train' the computer? I just changed a flat and threw the flat on the back and it now says the spare is low as it should.....can someone break it down for me potatoe head style?

You are fine, i think they were talking about changing the tire pressures and moving the TPMS sensors to another wheel, etc. For your issue, you spare is low because it's flat. Thats normal. Get a new tire on there, and the light will go away.

Ah, so you can 're-train' it for differnt PSIs? And you DON'T have to re-train it for tire position, correct?

Hmm, I really do not know what you mean by that, but the only time you need to retrain a sensor is if you move the rim to a different area. It doesnt care what the psi is. You can have 0 psi, or 60psi, you do not need to retrain it for that. The reason the light is on, is b/c its below 25 psi, thats where the light comes on.

On 05's and above you do not need to retrain it. 04's and below, you do. They changed something for the 05's, idk how it retrains its self on its own?

Gotcha! thanks.

04 will moniter/retrain also. But sometimes it needs a kick in the butt so it is useful to retrain the tpms with the donut. Mine has a bad habit of reading a higher tp than what is in the tire, so I just retrain on occasion. The serice manual will tell you to do it after every tire rotation.

Like ive already said, using the magnet will not change what psi the sensor reads. It does not re-calibrate the sensor, it only tells the jeep where the sensor is so it knows what tire has what psi for the display in the evic.
