Post subject:  Teflon Tape and Gear Oil

Hopefully putting on my Riddler diff cover this weekend, couple quick questions:

Does everyone use a wrap or two of Teflon tape on the fill plug? what about the fill/drain plugs for the T-case?

I usually put 80w90 in both diffs, I might do some offroading this summer (not alot) - would there be any disadvantage if I was to put 85w140 in both diffs instead? more drag? any other reason not too?

Thanks!

Put teflon tape on all my diff/xfercase drain and fill plugs. Noticed with age and repeated changes they weep eventually. Last change teflon tape was in better shape than the fluids were, so not too concerned about it not standing temperatures - but I do try not to wrap it on the last couple internal facing threads.

Use 80W90 now because it's cheap and plentiful (with 5 gallon pails intend to simply change way more often). The only reason I wouldn't use 85W140 here is because it's not much of a performer in cold weather... no real need as I don't do much towing and if I do it's light and short. I could see offroaders using a heavier diff oil in more extreme or hot conditions but think good old regular weight dino changed often is best for my KJ.
