It started a few days ago. Yesterday I checked my uca and they are nice and tight. The r&p is bolted tight so I am a bit perplexed.

When I turn the wheel to the left and the word Jeep on the steering wheel is vertical I feel a pop under the gas pedal and hear the pop. Right away I thought the bolts on my uca but that was not it. Any ideas? It only happens when I turn left. The steering is pretty tight but I don't think that rules out the r&p. Also it seems to happen at all speeds.

What about a tie rod? Anyone have issues with them?

Only reason I don't think ball joints is because we just replaced the upper control arms and the lower looked fine...can they go from good to bad in about...1000 miles?

Just realized none of my previous posts...posted or it was on one of the other forums :D

It is still making the noise...I removed the cv and half shaft(right term?) Now it seems to make the noise when I go straight too from time to time. I also jacked up the front end and checked what I thought was everything. I twisted, turned shook and kicked...no noise. So...my thoughts now are:

1-R&P
2-Bushings somewhere
3-Wait for what ever is hitting what to just plain fall out
4-Have yet another beer and forget why the hell I am concerned about this noise, lol

Any ideas?

My last ditch effort will be to take it into a shop and see what they say. I really do not want to do that though...most shops in this valley suck.

Mine has been making a pop noise when i turn right and there is a dip or something I go over. Tried to figure it out and I couldn't then took it to the shop and they check everything and said they couldn't find anything wrong. It only does it when it is below 40 outside. So I am a little confused on it too.

I would bet its your CV. That's one that rears its head during turning, and since you said you messed with it and now the sound happens when driving straight, I bet its the culprit...just guessing here having had to have that fix before and similar symptoms.

Well, it now makes noise turning left, right and going straight, lol. Heck it even makes it when I pull up into my driveway over a small S curb. I looked at the mounts and could not see anything wrong but could not get a great view on all of them. If it is the front CVs wouldn't it make a whirling noise?

Checked the ball joints again and they are a-ok. I did notice that I have a couple of small leaks. One is a coolant leak...looks like it might be from the water pump. The other is one of the hoses near the power steering...the reservoir is full and no fluid leaking form there. One of the hoses near it at the bottom is wet though...it is at a "T". Not sure what it is though.

The CVs look ok, no leaking/grease anywhere. Boots intact...and when I lift the jeep and put it on stands the noise does nto happen. Perhaps I will just ignore it and see what happens. Hate to take it to a dealership and get hit with a huge bill for nothing. That and I have my airbag light on and malfunction light on for now, lol. Airbag from when I changed out the rad and the mal from P0442 so I swapped out the gas cap just need to reset the light. Never dull.
