I was crawling over a stretch of broken cement slabs and came down pretty hard on a piece. The result was I now have a slight hump in the floor on the drivers side front. I was thinking of putting a piece 2X6 on the hump and beating it back down with a heavy hammer. Any other suggestions?

Terry

PS: I made it over the offending cement just fine!

Terry, let's see how the hump is? Did the piece of concrete hit it or did it shove something else up and make the hump?

i have the same problem but it was a nice rock that snuck up in there. i decided to leave it alone, reminds me to watch for those loose rocks that like to roll around underneath.

The concrete did it. If I took a picture it wouldn't exactly show up. I can feel it. It just made a small bump on the floor.

I got a big hammer... a BFH to be exact! But the bump is a little bigger than the hammer head.

Use a board, I use hammers and boards quite a bit when working on vehicles.

Don't use a board.....Wood is soft and dents easily compared to metal. Get a piece of flat steel a bit bigger than the size of the dent you're trying to remove then place that piece of steel on your floor jack and jack it up against the floor. You now have a fairly solid anvil to back up your hammer strikes and little chance of turning a raised dent into a lowered one. Hope this helps. :)

Perhaps you should try using some scrap 2x4's instead of balsa wood.

Be carefull pounding freely on the drivers floor, there is alot of wires running in that area and you could do alot more damage then what you started with.

Yeah ....I'll get right on that after all the body shops switch to wooden dollies to help beat metal back into shape. Metal VS. wood, Hmmm.....how does it work. :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: Try smacking your trusty 2x4 with a 3lb. hammer, then try the same thing on a piece of 1/4 in. thick plate steel, betcha I know which one will dent first/ easiest/ etc.

A piece of 2x4 would work. The wires run down a channel, on the left side if I remember right so they are not in the way. If it was something from back in the 30's or something, when they put good thick metal in cars, then I wouldn't use wood.
