Alternative Jeep Liberty seats. I wanted a small diesel SUV for economical reasons (22 City /30 highway). The Jeep liberty was the only choice in my price range. Putting better tires and shocks improved the ride but it was still to brutal for long trips. Searching the internet availed little information on alternative seats. I removed the passenger seat and drew out a diagram of what seat structure was required. I preferred cushy leather seats. I did not want power seats because I did not want to deal with the electrical set up. Most junk yard front seats are badly worn. So I began looking for middle row captain chairs from minivans, however most of them do not have front/back sliding rails. After spending hours in a junk yard I hit pay dirt. I late model Chevy Silhouette middle seat have the exact rail width (14") and seat size to fit. This Silhouette was a very close match of silver grey leather and it had sliding seat rails. My added fortune was that these seats were still covered with a seat cover so the leather was unscratched. By the way, save the seat bolts from the Chevy. You can remove or leave the arm rests on. There is room for them in the Jeep. The outside Jeep seat bracket is bolted to the rail so it is easily removed. With some drilling, it is easily attached to the Silhouette seat. The inside Jeep rail is another story. It is two separate pieces (front and back). Each piece is riveted and spot welded to the rails. I drilled out the rivets and used a zawsaw to cut the welds. These brackets are then bolted to the Silhouette inside rail. Next problem is the passenger sensor. Remove the unit from under the jeep passenger seat. Do not cut the wires or your air bag light will stay on. You can cut the liquid tube to attaches to the Jeep seat bottom. Wind up the wires and zip tie them together and stuff them under the new seat. The passenger seat belt anchor bolt must be grounded. I used this bolt as one of the seat frame anchor bolts. My first attempt left the driver's seat a little too close. (I have very long legs). Removing my new seat, I disconnected the rails from the Silhouette seat and moved the seat back two more inches. Aahh.. I think I could drive all day now. Final result: The Liberty ride is much more plush. It is amazing what difference the seats make. I was just about ready to go to a suspension shop and have lighter weight springs put in. Now I don't have to . It is too bad that Jeep doesn't provide better seats. My Grand Cherokee had great seats, now my Liberty does as well. I've got pictures |

Anybody using these on a Liberty Limited with power jeep seats? Thinking of trying a set on my 05 but wanted to see if anybody else had any issues with them. I know of one fellow here with them on a Sport and they looked pretty cool. |

I love the cloth seats in my KJ. I have driven many long trips in the KJ and its still to this date the only vehicle that doesnt cause me pain when driving over 4 hours (Im sure the WJ will be the same). I just wish that the driver seat wasnt power. |

Yeah when I first got into the KJ I thought it was going to be yet another firm seat that causes leg pain on long hauls but I couldnt have been more wrong. I have done a couple 1000+ mile trips this year in the KJ and I must say the only issue I have is my knee from prolonged use in the same position. If I hold my knee in a cocked position for a long time it gets kinda funky. But yeah I wouldnt trade my KJ seats for anything. Hell they even make a nice napping bed.

My Renegade has the power leather seats. They are almost as comfortable as my wife's Volvo. I had no problems (other than my Restless Leg Syndrome) on my drive from CA to AL. P.S. My dog loves the ride in the Jeep also. |

I am still trying to figure out what a Chevy Silhouette is. The Silhouette is a Minivan sold by Oldsmobile although I realize that it was also sold as the Chevrolet Lumina, Chevrolet Venture, Chevrolet Uplander, Chevrolet Trans Sport, Pontiac Trans Sport, Pontiac Montana/SV6, Saturn Relay, Buick Terraza, Buick GL8, Vauxhall Sintra and Opel Sintra. This van has had a million names but not Chevrolet Silhouette, are you talking about this van or are you maybe talking about the Chevrolet Silverado? EDIT: I see now that you said minivan in your original post so you must then be talking about the GM U-body van. So all i did is provide a list of vans that have the same seats as the one you posted |

I'm happy with my 96 Liberty seats. I just make sure I'm not sitting on my wallet! |
