Post subject:  2012 Liberty?

Hi and thanks for allowing me to join this board!

I currently own a 2008 Liberty and I'm considering buying another, model year 2012. Lots of speculations as to changes etc. I was wondering/hoping that they'll use the Pentastar 3.6, upgrade the automatic transmission, and leave the 4x4 options as they are now, keeping it RWD vs FWD when the 4x4 system is not in use. Does anyone have any idea if this is a possibility or is it going to become a 'cute ute' as some people think. I've read all I could on the internet and thought I'd ask here, hoping someone had some inside scoop that hasn't be published yet. Thanks again!

From what I have read, the Liberty is 'safe' for 2012, but the Nitro is going away. The Libby is expected to debut with a few changes and 'hopes' of receiving the 3.6 Pentastar engine. Other than that, not much else to see or hope for in the future of the Libby.

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly what I was hoping for. Hopefully they'll get rid of the 4 speed auto tranny as well, and not mess with the 4WD system.

That would be great with the 3.6L. Plus our Libs would have some usable power for once :ROTFL:

Can't remember if it's Car and Driver, or MotorTrend... but one of them has information on this very topic in this month's issue.

The 2012 Liberty will be relatively unchanged. You won't see much difference at all between it and the current model.

The 2013 Liberty will be all new from the ground up. It reportedly will be longer, wider, will have more features on the interior, and will have better approach and departure angles and better off-road ability right off the showroom floor.

Personally, if I was going to buy a Liberty new...I wouldn't buy one right now. I'd either get the 2012 Wrangler (Pentastar V6) or I'd wait for the 2013 Liberty.

Latest from allpar:
Quote:
The next Jeep Liberty, said to look far more upscale and attractive, will use the same key dimensions as new D class (midsized) cars in model-year 2013 (CY 2012) — CUSW in other words. The Liberty could be a “real Jeep” that just shares key dimensions with mid-sized cars and crossovers (most think we will get something that is not as off-road capable, but has a Trail Rated version, like Compass and Patriot). Rumor has the 3.2 V6 being used instead of the 3.6, presumably for gas mileage and (mainly) packaging reasons — a smaller engine could allow better wheel travel. That said, the 3.2 isn’t due for production until 2013, according to some sources. A VM diesel is possible as Euro and US standards converge. Nitro ends in late 2011.

I am praying for the return of a decent diesel engine some time before I am ready to buy again in a Wrangler or a Liberty. I quite like my CRD, I can't see going back to a petrol engine again if I don't have to.

With Fiat now in ownership I can only hope so and europes love for diesel makes that seem logical if they can tap the market niche correctly. Fiat seems to have turned their reputation around and upped the quality of their cars since they were sold here the last time in the 1980's. If they can do the same with the Chrysler brands things will be realy looking up.

I'm seriously considering the new 4bt conversion for my JK. 13 mpg kinda sucks.

Great minds think alike. I would love to do that if I had time, space and money to tinker with a Wrangler. There is a guy that lives down the street from a friend of mine that converted a '97 Wranger to a 4bt. It sounds incredible. He gave me a look at it, it thought it was very nice. he did most of the work himself. He had some issues with getting the gearing correct so that it was matched up for power, speed and good economy. it is a louder engine than the liberty CRD's VM engine.

With 38" MT's, 18" glass pack muffler, supercharger, no doors or top, I'm not too concerned with Loudness anymore...

I was planing on buying another car within the next 2-3 years. If the Liberty is anything that I image it to be, then my current liberty will have a new younger brother

On that note. The only two Chrysler cars that I can see myself buying within the next 2-3 years is a Dodge Charger, Jeep Compass, or Jeep Wrangler.

All you need to know about the new Liberty is that it is going to be just a jeepy as a dodge Caliber... er, I mean, a Patriot/Compass econobox. :(

This is exactly the OPPOSITE of what the head man at Jeep told MotorTrend magazine. I think a lot of people here are going to be shocked when the 2013 Liberty rolls out and actually stomps the KJ/KK into the ground on off-road trails and interior capacity.
