Eugene had trouble starting yesterday and was towed home. It would start with throttle applied, but ran really rough with tapping coming from the right bank.

I pulled the valve cover off this morning and discovered that the foremost valve (intake I believe) is not pressing it's rocker against the cam. The cam is in position for the valve to be closed, but there is a measured .7 mm gap between them. Certainly, a valve job needs to be done.

Does anyone know if the intake valves are interference valves on these engines?

Talked to a couple head rebuilders. They both think the valve seat dropped. Common problem. Usually not fatal to the engine.
