your garage. they are incredibly simple to do. Buy some plugs for $1.50-2, I liked the champ plugs another good plug is the NGK. 1.50*6 = less that $10. 30-45 mins of your time and waaalaw. There is a tech write up in the tech section. |

You can change the plugs yourself and there is a 3 step fuel cleaning process you can purchase at most auto parts stores. these steps are... Cleaning the throttlebody out with a spray running a special cleaner through the vaccum line on your brake booster and a fuel additive. all of this takes around 1hr for an experienced person and 2 hrs for first timers. there is one spark plug that is not that easy to get at but with extensions for your ratchet its not that difficult. YOu would be out around 40 - 50 bucks this way and your jeep will run like new. Also remember to replace the air filter that is very important. Chris |

My soap box. NGK plugs are OEM and Really are one of the best plugs made. Anyone else reading this Please buy the factory replacement NGK's and call it a day. I have replaced mine twice in 35K miles and a set of new NGK's really is the best boost to fuel economy and performance. Fancy plugs (Splitfire, whatever brand Platinum, etc.) really do nothing for your vehicle as most are just gimmicks that are really made to create more profits for the seller. Replacing plugs every 30K or less will pay for itself in better fuel economy and performance. New plugs only cost a couple bucks each and you only need 6 of them. Cheap even in my tight budget. Read up in the tech section on how to change your own plugs. It really is a simple process that only requires a few basic hand tools. My best suggestion for doing that One hard to reach plug is to detach the radiator overflow and move it out of the way. I have done this a couple times now and it makes it real easy to get to. Also, ASK QUESTIONS!!! There are NO stupid questions except the ones that are Never asked. Try searching for the anser but if you the info is not clear, ASK more questions. This forum is Loaded with some very knowledgable people that work on thier own vehicles & others Often. Get together w/ other Jeep people in your area and learn how to work on your Jeep. Attend comunity college courses that will teach you the basics too. Buy some manuals and read up. You will save a bundle in the long run on your vehicles upkeep and probably have some fun doing it too. Ok, I just fell off my soap box again so I will STFU now. But seriously, go pop your hood and get dirty with your Jeep......wait, that sounded funny. |

Dano, Id say that would be at least $300 at a dealership. You wouldnt save much doing it at home. Good job! Good uncle too. |

I need to replace my plugs soon too. I'm just waiting for it to warm up enough so I don't get frostbite while doing it. |

Wow, thats really cheap for all that work! All the places near me charge $129-$150 for the tranny flush/fill alone. Im also waiting for it to get a little warmer (7 degrees here this AM) before I replace the plugs and fluids. My plugs were all worn badly (.065" gap) when I changed them. I installed Bosch platinums and it made no difference in the gas mileage at all. Im switching back to NGKs VERY soon.... |

Question..When the dealer does a tranny flush, do they hook it up to a flushing type machine, or do they just drain & refill? |

Wow! I think you will do much better than that now. And I thought it was bad when I couldn't quite get to 400 miles per tank (best so far is 491 miles). |

Diesel, sorry for the confusion. But I was trying to imply that a gasser should get much more than 160 miles. I'd think 250 to 300 miles with the 20.5 gallon tank. |

When they are doing a flush, yes they do hook it up. When they do a filter chage, they just drain, and fill. |

Wife had the plugs in the back they were pretty shot about half gone on the side. I think I will change them more often .I have been using some kind of gas additive. I got it at the airport when a Friend was working on his plane it takes 4 oz per every 3 fill up. I need to get him to tell me what it is called. he gave me a gallon in a milk jug. 3 oz for my 20 gallon tank. he uses it by the 55 gallon drum. I also get Slick 50 from him to . Question ??? I changed to synthetic can I still use slick 50 or do I need to |

Slick 50 is snake oil. Use a good quality synthetic like Amsoil or Mobil 1. Interested to hear what you are adding to the gas too. Hmmm?? |
