I have a 04 kj limited. Why does only one of my wheels spin while in 2wd? do I NOT have posi traction/lsd or whatev?
Seems od for it not to have lsd. When I use part time is it 2wd until the wheels slip then its turns on 4wd? When is in full time 4wd are all 4 wheels getting power?

2wd both get power but the differential delivers it to the one with less traction since it has a completely open differential.

4wd part time, all wheels are spinning all the time.

4wd full time, basically AWD. corner wheels spin, when they slip, the opposite corner wheels start getting power.

4wd part time, Both front and rear driveshafts are locked and spin the same speed no matter what, see above for front and rear diff operation.Use only on loose/slippery surfaces.

4wd full time(option t-case), basically AWD. has a torque split normally(driving straight) of 48/52,the front and rear driveshafts can spin at different speeds allowing use on hard surfaces like pavement or wet pavement.

Fixed some of it for you.

Oh and to the OP LSD is a option on a KJ,never was standard.

LSD came out standard on the 2002 2.5 CRDs....Export models obviously :D
Not sure about the 2002 Export gassers though...suspect that they also had LSD as standard.

In the North American market, LSD was an option on all model years. Don't think it was standard for any year KJ/KK.

The feature is called Trac-loc It is affectionaly called Trash-lock as its clutch based and will wear out and become less effective over time.

Yeah too true....I do not really need it on my 2002 CRD as I spend 95% of my time on the open road. So far it works (100,000 miles) but if it packs up I would probably look for an open diff to replace it. :?
