In process of buying a synthetic winch line. Any suggestions? Whose brand are you using and how do you like it? Next question what size, 3/8, 1/2. Going to get 92-100' length. Does anyone have experience with Viking products? Like their black anodized fair lead. My winch is a Warn 8000. I have heard that only Warn line will work on a Warn winch because of the internal brake. Is that bull or ?? Thanks for your input |

5/16 is the standard steel cable size on most winches, so I would either keep to that or go with 3/8 if you want extra load rating. I had 100' of 5/16 line on my Warn 9000i and that was it's limit; you would only fit 80' of 3/8 line. I have 3/8 line on my Warn 8274 mainly because it came with larger cable and has more room to spool. I use Amsteel blue on all of them and have never had a problem. It is true that winches with brakes in the drum will generate heat on the drum when under use (ie. the warn 8000 and 9000i). You can get some heat shielding to wrap the drum or just let it rest between long pulls to cool. Hasn't been a big problems and only affects the first few layer on the drum. |

Thanks to both of you for your input. Looks like either Master Pull or Amsteel would be great winch lines. I ended up buying Viking 5/16" x 100' with the thimble on the end. I will let you know if I have any issues. GGoat |

Viking line is good stuff as well. I looked at all of them. Masterpull was just plain out of range price wise and it hasn't performed any better on my friends rigs than other ropes. Viking and Amsteel are pretty close in composition and price; just came down to where I got the best deal. You will really like the rope once you have used it a few times. Make sure you put a 10' of better protective sleeve on it has really saved the wear when I have had to pull in the rocks. |

It's the strongest. Doesnt mean youll need it, but its nice to have. |
