So, Winter is closing in quicker than I think, plus I like to be prepared. I'm attempting to make a few different Jeep containers to have the right stuff for the right time of year. Does anyone have some recommendations on chains? I havent used chains since my little chevy pickup, plus the chains were totally old and breaking apart. So I'm feeling a little lost on the topic. Thanks guys

I live in tahoe where it snows. A lot. With 4wd i have never needed chains, even with 24" of fresh snow or glazed over ice. Unless you have bald tires, you should be fine.
If you really want chains though, get real linked chains, not cable chains because they break easily. Extra rubber tensioners are good to have so they stay nice and tight and don't rip up your fender wells.

This link got posted a while back http://www.tirechain.com/

however if you've got larger than stock tires - be very cautious - or you'll rip out the wheel wells.

we only do snow once every 6-7 years - so no suggestions.

I used to live in Reno, would go snowboarding at Diamond peak so I totally get the snow. I bought my kj with 2wd for gas, seeing as I drive around VA for work. So a little winter oriented kit would remove my reservations about driving uphill with my light jeep if I needed to get to some weird rural town.

Currently I have a collection of cinder blocks I load up if it snows, but I drove up toward DC for work during that huge DC/Northern VA blizzard a couple years ago and that was utter hell. 5 to 10mph with people losing traction all over the place.

90% of the snow we get around here can be done in 2wd. I only go in 4wd for fun or when we have a blizzard, and really the only time you need to get out in a blizzard is for fun.
