Got a call from the stealership today saying that in addition to the faulty driver circuit for cyl. #5 in the PCM (replaced PCM). That when they started it back up they noticed a ticking in the engine so ran a compression check and found cyl. #6 was @0. Proceeded to pull the valve cover and found that #6 had a seized lifter and had tossed the rocker arm  .

The engine was just replaced with a brand new long block at 88,296mi. when a valve spring broke and dropped a valve into the cylinder. Are the 3.7L really this big of a POS ?? seems this engine can't go more than a few thousand miles before developing major engine trouble. What gives ???????

UPDATE: Looks like the engine is off to LKQ for an inspection before they will honor a warranty claim according to their rep. So we'll see how this goes, though from talking to the rep. on the phone, if possible they sound like they would try to weasel out on the warranty claim.

Well if a brand new long block was installed it should have a 3/36,000 warranty on it so you should not worry.

Yep, so far that's been the saving grace is that it's still got a year left on the warranty. Just worried about the "what if" factor when the waranty runs out. Of course by then about most major parts on mine will have been replaced it seems like..

Sometimes you get unlucky. There are plenty of people with well over 100k, 200k and even some with over 300k on these engines.

You'd think I'd have no worries but after talking to the LKQ rep. I'm not so sure. They want the engine back for a mechanical autopsy before honoring the claim and since they use the mitchell manual for computing shop labor I'll still be on the hook for some of the bill regarding engine replacemant since they are only willing to pay $50 of the $70 that the stealership wants as an hourly labor rate  . Or the whole darn thing if they can find any way to weasel out of it.

I wish the local stealer charged $70/hr for labor. Mine is $100/hr for standard and $130/hr for more complex jobs :furious:

Having an engine down isn’t fun. I hope it all works out for you.

It’s really strange how some people can go 300,000 miles without having to replace major engine and drivetrain components, then there are those who are replacing major engine and drivetrain parts every 30,000 miles.

Right now it's up to the company that provided the engine. I don't understand how they could fail to warranty it but who knows...

darn that sucks. wifes 04 is at 175k miles and it runs great (knock on wood).

Had an 06 at work that had a bad camshaft show up at around 80k.....our mechanics claim that it was built on a friday.
