Got into a fairly humorous discussion at the parts store the other day about odd methods of repair I think the strangest sounding one that I've used was: Fixed a gas tank leak (dime sized puncture hole) on my old ford with a bar of ivory soap Then forgot about it and drove around with it like that for 3 days So what weirdness do you fellers have patched up? List: JJH-- Ivory soap patching hole in gas tank Tom-- Panty Hose tying door shut cgass--Reattached borrowed vehicles muffler and exhaust with handcuffs and zipties infernicus-- Plastic, ziptied and ducked CV boots infernicus-- ratchet strapped R&P gtommec-- jump box battery ramble-- Ford Tempo doorlock -shed door sliding bolt lock, and some sheet metal screws 2006 KJ-- log and ratchet strap broken axle "keeper" |

Borrowed my friends 88 Thunderbird and had the muffler and exhaust fall off. Reattached it with a couple pairs of handcuffs and a zip tie. Worked for about 36 hours before I could get it fixed. |

Ohhh man, here we goooooo. This one isn't so bad. Torn CV boot? No problem! ![]() Nothing a little heavy duty plastic, zip ties and gaffers tape cant fix! Break a weld on your Rack and Pinion? Ratchet straps work great! ![]() I don't know why I fixed it though.. The straps worked for over 1,000 miles.. I thought I had a better shot, I'd have to look for it. Here is a video coming out of the trail before "fixing" it with the straps. http://youtu.be/KcECmCdc99M |

back when I was like 16 or 17 I had a Pontiac Sunbird and my alternator went out on me, I had a new alternator but needed to get home to my tools so I drove until my battery was dead and then I took the power wire off of my amp in the trunk and hooked it to my jump box and drove the rest of the way home using my jump box for power. |

I did the same thing a couple months ago. Broke the R&P on a washboarded out dirt road, and all I had in the Jeep were some heavy duty cam-lock straps. The temp fix worked quite well. Drove around all week until I could swap out the busted steering rack.

I had a 86' ford tempo and after taking a mercedes to the rear passenger side, the door wouldn't close anymore... Solution, a run to home depot and a shed door sliding bolt lock, and some sheet metal screws!

A friend of mine had an old Datsun 510 that he beat the snot out of off road. The "door locks" were the pin latch type door locks that you'd find on the doors of a public restroom. They served a dual purpose as door locks, and also served to keep the doors from opening as the stock latches didn't work either.

I drove an old retired Meister Brau Ford beer truck as a kid. In a down pour rain storm, the wipers quit. Did the string out both vent wings and had the co pilot run the string back and forth. Worked like a charm!!!! |

a couple years ago at Uwharrie while coming out of the soup bowl I had a strut spacer fail turning my Tracker into a Delorean. We ratchet strapped my strut back into place (without a spring) so I could drive it back down off of the trail to the trail head and load it up on the trailer. ![]() ![]() ![]() sorry no pics of the fix though |

i did this to a friends 95 Dodge Neon. belt to the alternator broke and it was after the time on a Sunday that parts stores were open. So we charged up the battery and tied a pair of panty hose around the pulleys nice and tight. Guess what it worked for about 10 miles to get them home. I had seen it in a movie couldn't believe it really worked |
