Post subject:  am i screwed?

while removing the upper ball joint nut, i think it was a little too rusty...

i got the nut half way off, and then the bolt/stud started rotating. there wasnt any pop or sound like anything broke. it looks like the nut is stuck on some rust, and now i dont have any counter torque...

did I break the upper ball joint, or is there some way to fix this?

in the meantime, i have some liquid wrench soaking into the joint...

edit: currently trying to use two box wrenches to torque the nut and counter-torque the stud... struggling to budge

edit 2: I am reading on other forums that this happens sometimes. general consensus is to somehow put a load on the ball joint so that more torque can be applied to the nut

not being familiar with the mechanics of the ball joint, i'm a little wary of putting too much load on it. I'm going to start out by trying some ratchet straps to apply pressure to the joint

Rubber mallet, c-clamps, and little ingenuity will get it off. Had a similar problem when I put my Al's a-arms on last month. Ended up using a c-clamp to put some pressure on it so I could get the nut off. If it happens on the lower joint just jack the a-arm up to get some pressure on the joint. Good luck.

where did you put your c-clamp? to squeeze the the a-arm and the steering knuckle together?

i tried ratchet straps, that didnt work. i put the wheel back on and lowered it so the weight of the jeep would put pressure on the joint, but that didnt work.

im thinkin about torching it next

could you clarify where you put the clamp?

ended up using a dremel to cut it off:
