So I've been looking into getting a bike rack for the jeep... I know a lot of you guys have said the spare tire mount can't take a lot of weight, so I really don't want to over due it.

I've been looking at both of the Yakima tire racks and I like both of them, they seem to do the job. I guess what I'm asking is... Would it be dumb to get one of the tire racks for my two bikes? Or should I just suck it up and buy a hitch and do it that way? Though with a hitch occupied I'd lose that space for a trailer or whatever else.

I have the Mopar spare tire bike rack. I frequently put two relatively light road bikes on it. I haven't had any problems, but I wouldn't go wheeling with bikes on it.

Thule T2 2" receiver hitch rack, this one fits two bikes, and they make an extension for four bikes. Pricey but does the job flawlessy and no more lifting the 40+ pound downhill bike up! A slight modification to the wheel trays and it fits snuggly against the rear tire.

Excellent, I'll most likely being carrying two crappy mountain bikes. LI_KJ eventually one day ill buy a hitch, But I'm way to broke so just buying the rack will be a better option for me. thanks for the pictures, that always helps!

If the spare tire can hold this, I'd imagine a couple bikes would be OK!

I'd personally use one that attaches to the trailer hitch.
Too much leverage swaying back and forth from the rear tire carrier when there are a couple of bikes hanging off the tire for my liking.
Especially if ya head off road to get to a good trail head!
The sheet metal already flexes and moves too much for my liking with a heavy 245-75-16 M/T R hanging off the tailgate...
